1/8 MILE TIMESLIPS INSIDE! Evo IX with some mods..

OK, so on friday i went to the local drag strip. its only an 1/8th mile but beggers cant be choosers.. here are my 2 best runs.. temperature was about 88 degrees outside and humidity was around 72% as i recall.. as you can see i couldnt seem to get the launch right.. after coming out of the hols pretty strong the car would just fall on its face. now remember this is on the mods i have losted in my signature only. i dont have a boost controller, or a tune yet! open discussion on my runs and give opinions and comments.. thanks in advance!!

(bye the way im on the left)

looks like if you get those 60ft down then you will be a mid 12s car in the 1/4 not bad

It's worse than stock, but running without a tune or MBC (the two most important mods) isn't wise.

I don't agree that a better 60' would mean a mid-12 at all. 83 in the 1/8th is going to be an 8.1 or so with a 1.7 60', which would then be a 12.8 @ 107 or so...maybe. However, when you get the EBC working along with a good tune, your car should be pretty strong.

If its falling on its face after the initial launch, then you're probably launching from too low of an rpm. I'm guessing you were trying to launch from 4k rpm or so? You need to launch from 5500-6000rpm.

If you're not tuned, then you have the stock 2-step, which is 5000rpm. if you were launching below it, then you were below 5000rpm. 5500 would have been fine, but it requires the ECU to be reprogrammed or for you to disconnect the switch.

I did a 8.4@ 83 with my evo VIII with 3" TBE, intake and electronic boost controller set at 22 PSI, I reved at 5500 and dumped the clutch, probally not good for the TC or transmission but pulled a 1.8 60 ft on street tires.

Dumping the clutch is completely asinine. It _will_ destroy your t-case. 1.8 is not good, so it's not worth repeating anyway. As for that being on 'street tires,' that's to be expected, because it's an AWD car.

For reference, I ran 8.40 stock, and having any of those mods without a tune is just unwise. It's the most important and least expensive - why not have one?

ok so then i suppose i was somewhere right about 5k when launching.. i didnt just drop it though.. i dont wanna drop the t-case on the track i was allowing to slips just enough it seemed.. as of right now im kinda in a holding pattern with the mods as my truboost crapped out on me after like 2 days. im gonna call AEM tomorrow and get a RMA to ship it back ASAP. then when i get the new one i will be off to get tuned.. no more track until then..

Yeah, I was talking about v-man in reference to dumping.

As for the launch point, if you were at 5k, then that means you were on the limiter. Right when you get near 5k, it kicks in, and you would know it. If you weren't on the launch limiter, then you were well below 5k, which is too low. Even 5k itself is too low, and if you're on the limiter, you have to be full throttle.

i was at the point where if i went like 200 rpms more it would started bouncin.. so thats waht about 4800ish then... once it started to move off the line though i jam pedal to the floor.. it took off great.. didnt feel harsh on the car whatsoever.. but then it would just bog down to a crawl and then pick back up again.. i figured it would need to be launched higher and feathered out but with factory 2 step in place thats a problem. when i get tuned can i have them move the 2 step to a higher RPM or do i have to eliminate it all together?

ya launching at a high rpm just well sometimes feels wrong but its the only way to go. i launch mine on al's dynoflash 2 step set at 6k , slipin the clutch of course spinning the tires which is always good and i pulled a 1.73 60 ft. 7.9-8 flat consitently until the clutch heats up .practice makes perfect but a tune would help tremendously
