Be careful wih solid pulleys. I do not recommend a solid pulley. There is no such thing as a performance lightweight crank pulley for an Evo.

If you do anything, use a Fluidampr.

We're in the same boat dude.. I think we've pretty much maxed the stock cams.. What do you think about head work/ported TB?

I agree that dropping the tranny for VIII gearing isn't what I want to spend my cash on. I think some proper weight reduction is good for ET but I don't think we'd gain any extra mph.

Just get cams

Would a solid pulley be fine just for the track and then switch it back out to the stock pulley right after?

I wouldn't bother with the solid pulley. It could have negative effect on bearings.

You would be better off bypassing the A/C with a shorter belt.

TTP, I always see you selling the fluid damper, what is the benefit?

is it true the they are not going to make the aluminum fluid damper anymore?

taller tire=taller gears. It's supposed to help if your running out of 4th gear before the end of the track.

thanks, I didn't know that before, so if I get taller tires, my tach reading would read lower than before?
and this will help me since I have 6 speed, which the 4th gear is shorter than 5 speed tranny?

VIII 5 speed, 4th is 1.031:1 reduction with a 4.52 final drive
IX 5 speed is 1.091 with a 4.52 FD
VIII/IX MR 6 speed, 4th is 1.1:1 reduction with a 4.583 FD

The thing about taller tires is they are also generally heavier and adding weight in rotating mass is not ideal. Honestly I dont know that its alot cheaper to buy a new set of good tall tires than an VIII 4th gear, just less labor. The closer you keep your trap RPM (as you cross the line) to peak power or just a little past the better.

I am also with Scott, solid pulleys on an Evo induce alot of unwanted harmonics and can cause issues. This is a big problem with alot of import applications as they are just not designed to be run with a solid crank pulley.

I agree with this statement but it is also possible to find equal weight or lighter tires of a taller size. I'm switching from stock size potenza's to 245/45/17 Nitto NT555R's which are listed as 2lbs lighter then my potenza's.

as TTP stated dotn worry about the pully as you have to shave 200 lps off the car per .10 of a second you wanna shave by pure weight reduction. is you get into the nickle and dime game of weight reduction for time in the 1320 you might wanna price AMS's carbon roof, carbon doors, a uncomfortable as sin drag seat, sellign your passanger seat, etc....

Not in the budget quite yet as I plan on porting the intake and getting a 65mm TB to tune it all in one shot.
