First time to the strip... 13.4 at 102mph

Well as always I would love to go faster but for my first time ever, I didn't feel toO bad. I know that the key to getting faster will be to get my sixy foot times down. I know all of you seasoned racers can look at my slip and give estimates of what type of time I could expect if I drove better. Any guesses, so I know what to shoot for.

Also, I never used the launch control on my car, I would slip the clutch off the line around 4000 rpm. I believe my launch control limit is set at 5900rpm.

As for power I made 305whp on a dynojet this winter and from what I can remember I was around 275tq (I will have to double check that)

So open to predictions on what I could hit, as well as tips to get better.

The numbers:
R/T .108
60' 1.986
330 5.581
1/8 8.624
MPH 83.92
1000 11.288
1/4 13.488
MPH 102.39

You'll kill your times and your clutch if you try to launch from 4k. That is more destructive than just using your launch control. People often think they are "taking it easy" on the car by launching from low rpm, but all that does is require you to slip the clutch a lot longer, which will kill it much faster.

For a 102mph trap, you won't have a lot to gain, but with 305whp, you should be closer to 110mph traps. With 305 on a Dynojet, I ran 12.26 @ 110 at full weight in an VIII. I imagine you're down on power due to summer heat as compared to your winter dyno, but the 102 is certainly not indicative of those power levels - it's actually lower than stock for a IX.

Give it another shot, use your launch control, shift at 7k, and stay in 4th through the end - don't shift to 5th.

I knew you would chime in, I appreciate it becasue I know you have the experience to back up your responses.

Well that gives me something to shoot for now. I will try the launch control next time. As for shifting I was shifting right around 7000 rpm's (maybe 7200-7400) and I did stay in fourth gear all the way through. I will look at my dyno again and see where my power drops off. Hopefully in two weeks I will have better numbers to show.

Not bad man, it gets addicting. I'm actually dying to go back to the track, but I don't want to risk breaking it before I go home to MA. But good luck next time too!

Looking more closely, you basically hit 84 in the 1/8th, which means you should have hit closer to 108 in the 1/4. However, you hit 102, so you only gained 18-19mph, which indicates a problem. Either the timers are off (doubt it), or you are knocking pretty badly up top. If you can log the runs, please do.

I know I become a pansy when it comes to drag racing becasue I hate to brake expensive things! But I guess you can always buy new stronger components!

^^^^ Hmm, I will look into to it. I don't have any way to log as of now but it might be somehting I look into. I have 255/40/17 tires on so I change my tire diamter slightly could that be playing a part (not sure just throwing that out there)

Also to comment, I had the car tuned for 91 oct in Salt Lake but now that I am back in Montana I run 93 so I would hope that the extra octane would be even more of a safety net.

Something else to throw out there, I am still scratching my head about the mph issue that warrtalon pointed out. But a couple of times I ended up staging right behind the top fuel dragsters. When they would do there burn outs it was super loud as usual and my rpm's would almost drop completly off and make my car die. I wondered if my car was registering that as knock and retarding the timing? Wich could account for a drop in power.

My car was also tuned for 91oct, but last year i was running 110oct for a little safty. It was 110 degrees outside not ideal weather for draging! Your trap speeds are real low, my 12.6 was at 108... If u need to log your next runs just let me know, later

Your maf sensor is picking up the pulses, do you have a high flow intake? That would explain the idle issues.
