First trip to the drag strip.. time for slicks??

Well I only made 2 passes today, flat out street tires won't hack it. My setup is in my sig, this setup is self tuned so far.

I am on street tires, 235's lol

I had some 110 fuel and turned the boost up to around 27 psi for my first pass

2.2 60 ft
12.3 et
124mph

2nd pass I tried to up the boost to around 29psi

2.0 60ft
11.8 et
130mph

I was having some serious shifting issues, the tranny just didn't wanna shift at 8350rpm. I was getting lock out everytime almost. Not to mention i was spinning horribly.

I am not happy at all with my ET, what do you guys think?? I need some drag radials or something to help me hook up. I think my trap speed is alright....

Its a lot harder to launch with that much power, but its definitely do-able. Lower your 2-step until you either have a perfect launch or bog, if you bog down, raise it slightly until you find the sweet spot. Also, it may make it easier to ride the clutch slightly longer if you are preloading and dumping. You don't need slicks, you need practice.

like other poster said, fool around with your 2 step til you find the right spots. make sure to slip the clutch and not dump it. also work on that 60ft, you can easily get that down lower which will help you ET a ton. +3 on the ACT locking out, maybe a new clutch if you plan on dragging often.

all in all good numbers well done, as long as you had fun thats all that matters!

Thanks guys, yeah I had a blast. The best 60ft of the day was a 1.898 but I freaking missed 3rd gear. I just really hate shifting in this car, I should have forked out the cash when I had the tranny out for a better clutch because this clutch flat out SUCKS at shifting at high rpms. I have tried every tranny fluid known to man, while it shifts smoother when it decides to go in, it did nothing for my shifting problems.

I would love to hit 10's, maybe once I learn how to drive better and get a new clutch

I dont think you need slicks at all. I just think you need to practice launching the car better. Slip the clutch a lot more. It seems to me that you might be dumping the clutch.

yea if your spinning like crazy most likely because ur dumping the clutch. wider tires will help also with traction but you don't need slicks. Just ease the clutch.....

Like stated, you need more practice. I have the same clutch in my car so I wouldn't exactly blame it.

ACT's suck for evo's. Get a twin. With more seat time you should be ok.

I don't use a stock ECU but I've seen an add on that you can use which will enable you to "no lift shift" perhaps that can help you with the lock out issue. Also, if you are not making much power at 8350RPM you may want to consider lowering the RPM that you shift at. The rule of thumb I've used is to use your dyno chart to see where your peak power is and base your shift point from there.

Lastly, you can definately improve your 60 foot. Perhaps spend a few runs on dialing your 60 foot in. By adjusting your RPM on the 2 step. There will be a sweet spot somewhere where launching is good without potentially wheel hoping.
