WTF?!? I Ran Slower Tuned?!?

So i have been waiting for months to go back to the track now that im tuned and i finally went back yesterday. I only got 2 runs in. I did do 1 in tarmac and 1 in gravel though. The last time i went to the track which was my first time i was un-tuned and ran a 12.61 @ 111.00mph with a 1.75 60'.

Im pissed! I got 2 runs in yesterday...remember im tuned now and picked up 30whp and 50wtq from the tune. First run in tarmac ran a 12.89 @ 107.79mph with a 1.87' 60ft. My second run in gravel the car started sliding out and i let of the gas a little and ran a 13.07 @ 108.11mph with a crappy 2.02 60'. Even though i slid and let off and had a crappy 60' i still trapped higher than the first run. Either way im pissed cause the times suck! I was hoping for low 12's now that im tuned. I don't understand.

If you don't know the gravel/tarmac theory then your probably confused. But basically someone knocked off .3 from there ET by using gravel from tarmac. Did gravel make me get a crappy 60' and slide a little? It didn't slide right from the launch...after i launched and starting moving then it started pulling left a little. Was it the extra torque giving me a crappy 60'? Stock clutch sucks? Stock tires suck?

So far the stock clutch has 4 launches on it. After the track i tested it out...put it in 5th gear at like 2.5k RPM and built boost and it steadily went up...didn't seem to be slipping.

Weather wasn't too warm or humid last night...and i don't think it was that much hotter than the first track day...probably a little hotter. I don't believe weather was the major factor.

What do you guys think??

EDIT: Im trying to think of all the other variables that changed from the first track day to this one...i put the Rota's on..which weight the same as stock. I took my wing off. And i put my Eibach springs on...didn't get a proper alignment yet but the car drives perfect...doesn't pull to any side or anything like that, so i doubt that could effect anything other than the launch which wasn't that bad my first run anyway. Gonna get that done soon.

Try doing a boost leak test. And get an alignment, you're going to ruin your tires.

I weighed my Rota's when I got them and if I recall correctly they weighed 23lbs. I remeber reading the stock GSR wheels weighed 23lbs also.

so heres the weather forecasts i found to compare my 2 track days...it was more humid this time around, didn't feel that bad though...but i don't believe that was the major factor considering i picked up 30whp and 50wtq...other than that they where very similair days:

May 20th

Time :Temp.: Dew Point: Humidity:
6:54 PM 77.0 °F 43.0 °F 30%
7:54 PM 72.0 °F 44.1 °F 37%
8:54 PM 63.0 °F 48.0 °F 58%
9:54 PM 61.0 °F 48.9 °F 64%

July 15th

Time : Temp.: Dew Point:Humidity:

6:54 PM 75.0 °F 59.0 °F 57%
7:54 PM 72.0 °F 60.1 °F 66%
8:54 PM 66.0 °F 60.1 °F 81%
9:54 PM 64.0 °F 60.1 °F 87%

My fault, I automatically assumed you went with a crazy offset with wider wheels.

If there is something you think we can do to improve this bring it back and we will look it over.

Somehow I knew I was going to see this post eventually....

Here is my theory....when you ran "untuned" you were running too much boost!! This was not safe, and Sean dialed it in properly. That accounts for your higher mph and your better time. Simple as that...you should feel better knowing you can go down the track safely, albeit slower, and not have to worry about blowing your motor.

To be honest, I was a little suspect at how fast your times were for the "first time at the track." Not that you didn't run those times, but how you got them. Drag racing is not easy and takes time to learn. Don't be too upset, and just continue to work on your driving. It's not magic...

I also got tuned by Ivey and made 340whp/338tq. My best so far is a 12.87 @ 108mph which is right in line with you. I know the car can do better, it is my driving that needs work. I have another friend in an X with 340whp running 109mph. I don't think anything is wrong with your car as it is trapping right where it should be.

The main reason that you were running slower were your 60 footers. Getting 30whp more doesn't mean that your are going to run faster at the track if you are going to be launching like that.

Yeah, the weather may come into factor but also the conditions of the track, your clutch and how you are shifting now as well as many other factors come into play. I suggest going to the track again, get some 1.7X 60 footers and then compare those results with what you did the first time.

I put the MBC in the night before i went to the track just so it could hold boost more up top...not really to raise it, you know. I've seen 24psi so i put my MBC and left it there. Ivey tuned it to 25psi.

The main thing though that i had no clue about and this probably explains alot...is that my 30whp and 50wtq gain was not from when i brought it in to when i get it back. His baseline was done after taking off my MBC i put on...and then to his tune. So it wasn't 30whp and 50wtq from when i went to the track last time...thats why i was going crazy cause it wasn't adding up. I obviously didn't gain much...but i didn't know that.

And yea its good to know im running around the same times as others with these numbers now...practice will only make it better.

We also changed parts on the car, so there are alot of variables.

Like I said you are welcome to bring it in and have us recheck on the dyno and otherwise.

Sounds good Sean...i actually gotta speak to Sam today about some install stuff. Maybe i'll try to find a day i can swing down to check it out and talk about some future plans.

Just so everyone knows i am in NO WAY saying my tune from Ivey wans't good. He was great to work with and i definitely recommend him.

No problem we do all types of cars. Supras over 1000HP etc.

Modifying any car is a process. Sometimes things need to be adjusted and made closer to optimum.

We are always willing to work with customers to achieve their goals, so if you are not happy with the performance, I am sure there are other things we can do to make it happen for you.

Sorry, I forgot that you didn't get tuned with the MBC. And when you took it off your baseline #'s were then lower than they were when you last went to the track. So you probably didn't gain that much peak power, but I am sure the power curve is smoother.

I am sure you can duplicate your 12.6 run, just need to put it all together on the track. GL!
