how is my car faster than his?

quick ?.

...at the 1/8 mile last week my buddy with an evo viii with cams,tune,E85 and full exhuast , trapped 93mph in the 1/8.
me with just full exhaust, tune and E85 (no cams) trapped a best of 89 in the 1/8.

mind you i just roll my car off the line and then floor it to save the clutch as much as possible, but the other guy and his evo viii full on rips off the line like a madman

...now after we left the track we decided to do a few friendly pulls on the freeway and did a 60 roll in third and finished off midway through 5th gear and both times i kept slowly pulling away from him untill i had a 2-3 car lead when we shut it down.

im confused

shudnt my car that traps slower in the 1/8 get beat by someone who traps higher than me?

or does the mivec and the ix turbo shine in the top end compared to the viii's?

or is his powerband shifted better for racing in the higher gears because he has cams and has better low end than i do?

i hope this thread isnt thread isnt considered street racing , but im just really curious to know how my car can pull on his with less mods and trap a slower mph?

How much hp and torque do both cars make ? Most of the time its in the tune and the driver.

well my car was street tuned by my friend (just doing 3rd gear pulls on an empty road) and he had his tuned by an independent shop and doesnt remember what the hp was, and i obviously have no clue either, as my car has never been on a dyno.
i just figured the times shud speak for themselves no?

93 mph in the 1/8 for an evo shud translate to approx 115-116 in the 1/4 no?

you have a better turbo, driver error and you are probably running more boost

Oh and Evo IX has a longer 1st gear, I run the Evo IX 1st and 5th gear in my VIII

IX are capable of a lot just the way they are with basic mods.
Enough to run 10.88

^^^^

thats what i was thinking as well. mind you that it wasnt an *** beating or anything like that, but more of a slow constant pull resulting in a 2-3 car lead by the time we shut it down with him still right behind me.
we're going to the 1/8 mile tomarrow and we'll see if he still cuts 93mph in the 1/8.

He launched, you rolled off the line. That's probably why you see the difference in trap speeds.

Launch is critical for a good 1/8th trap. Chances are your car traps far higher than 93 on a vicious launch.

Shorter gearing in the IX too. The mph for 1/8th is right near the rev limiter for a bolt on car.
