New personal best times and the win at Import Face Off!
New personal best times and the win at Import Face Off!
First off big thanks to David Buschur, Streetthisevo, and Keith at Pure tuning!
After making some changes to the car over the winter, I wanted to try to hit a couple more events this summer than I have been able to in the past couple years due to various issues I've had to work though.
Keith was able to get me an hour of dyno time before the IFO in Columbus over the weekend, which was key to even attempting to be ready to race in the FIS class. I still wasn't 100% ready, and I've never raced at National Trailways Raceway before so I wasn't sure on the track prep. There's no practice runs at the Import Face off, you get two qualifying runs and that's it!
My first run was a disaster, bogged hard off the line and locked out of 2nd gear.. not a good enough run to make the top 16 by far. I dialed in a little more power off the line and managed to spin the tires on the second attempt to a 10.9 and made the cut!
Here's where it gets ugly.. as I started to dial some more boost in, I started running into some massive crankcase pressure and the car actually pushed oil out of the breather at the end of the track on that second qualifying pass.. I had no idea until I got back to the pits to double check everything like I do after each run! One of my good friends was the next car up in that lane and he said he ran into something slippery on the track on the big end, and almost lost it!
I felt terrible, at that moment in time I was almost ready to pack it up and sit in the stands.
I went through so much brake parts cleaner and an entire roll of shop towels trying to track down the issue and clean up the mess. looking over the engine bay, and knew nothing was really broken. David Buschur and Chris happened to be walking by and said they heard I had made a mess
David listened to what had happened, and thought that my shortblock might be creating some abnormally high pressure.. it's been through hell and back so I have to agree it probably needs some freshening up.. in the meantime, we come up with some temporary modifications to stop the problem, and after a good deal of cleaning I was back in business!
With the minimal dyno time I was lucky to get at all, I still had some things to finish up with the tune, I cut some decent lights and managed to sneak through the round of 16 with an 11 flat at 137 (still didn't quite have that track down
) and over the course of the next few rounds managed to pull off a new personal best mph of 142.9, and a new personal best of 10.41 with a new best 60' of 1.53 in the final round to take down the win! Anyways here's some pics and one of the trophy! Glad I could bring this back to the Evo camp, there were a lot of 10 second cars in the top side of the bracket and a GT-R too!

until I get a set of angry aero's blockoffs, I have to resort to what my 'pit crew' now refers to as 'rape tape'

This was the trophy I really wanted, my first event win!

Thanks!
Thanks, and I am hoping so, hope to hit a couple more races this year and get that launch more consistent! Look forward to seeing how you do at that one too!

Thanks guys! Lol Scott I can't remember my memory is starting to go at this age. Lol j/k we just blocked off the line venting the dipstick tube to the catch can for the remainder of the event. Did you end up going to Milan?
Congratulations on your win at IFO and a new personal best! Some more seat time and you will be clicking off single digits left and right.
These cars get a lot of blowby with high boost and e85. Best bet is to get a large vented can that will hold in the blow by for a few passes before you drain it.
Also just say the word and I will have a set of shutters made up for you!
