12.35 @ 108.6 very basic mods

hey guys...went to Island with the Evo VIII for friday T&T.

got 7 runs in in hot-lap fashion:
12.97 @ 105.1 1.780 AFC at -10% (street settings) boost 17psi
12.72 @ 107.2 1.715 boost up to 18
12.77 @ 106.3 1.744 afc down to -15%
12.58 @ 107.6 1.704 boost up to 19-20 psi
12.87 @ 107.6 1.876 AFC down to -25%
12.56 @ 108.8 1.709 boost still at 20 and AFC at -30%
12.35 @ 108.6 1.676 boost controller cranked 4 more turns still 20psi. Powershifting 1-2 and 2-3 easy 3-4 shift. 5500sish clutch dump launch.

Im absolutly loving the evo now. It's going pretty fast for only having very basic mods I think. There were atleast 6 wrx's and STI's, none of them even went low 13s. 4 SRT4's too...all high 14s. One other evo..didn't see it run.

Mods:
VRS 3" SS tuboback exhaust with 02 eliminator.
Injen Intake and upper IC pipe set. Bling Bling
Hallman ES Manual boost controller
Apexi AFCII
Racegas

I think the stock plastic BOV is leaking, as I can't get the boost over 20 no matter what (boost controller screwed all way in). The stock clutch still sicks too. Cant' slip it on the launch or it will just slip all through 1st gear and into second, with slow 60's. I have to dump the clutch and let the tires spin for a tiny bit. Unfortunatly it bogs down once the tires hook up. Definatly not best way to do it, but atleast the clutch holds this way.

forgot too add that it was about 96% humidity, as it started to pour at 9pm and was thunderstorming most of the afternoon and night in the neiboring towns. outside air temps were 88 on first runs down to 83 on the last runs. Intake temps on the logger were 130* on the line down to 122 in 4th. pretty consistent there. Possibly a cold air intake extension would help too.won't get to run again for 2 weeks..going on vacation this week.

nice times. I pulled 12.8 (i was happy) still stock clutch at 21K and it was about 90% and it was hot, also my safc is not tunned. mods are below - there was also STI in 14.5s but then all the sudden his times were 13.8 and not less or more, i dont think this dude knows how to drive also SRT's in 14s but there was 1 SRT with slicks and stage 2 - his times 13.1

That 1.6 60 ft would be a dream for me. I bust a low 1.7 and I am happy. Good runs and I can tell your experience pays off at the 1320. 12.3 at 108 mph is driving your A$$ off.BTW What is your definition of power shifting cause on this tranny I believe things will break if we have the same definition.

on your 12.58 run it says 19-20psi then you say you turned it up 4 more times corect, thats at least 5 or 6 maybe more psi, on mine at least, and they all work just about the same way for a manual, just check it out, dont blow your car

Relax...I have owned/managed a DSM shop for a living for the last 3 years (notice the 10.85 in my sig). Im not a 17 year old kid moding his first car.I know what im doing, the boost pressure at the intake manifold was 20psi.

The gauge is not wrong, as I verified MY stock bov leaking at pretty much every input pressure. Looks like the stock valve body is warped and the valve isn't seating flat. I also had a slight leak between the injen pipe and the fmic. Just with fixing the small leak at the hose connecter, spoolup is better by about 200rpm. Im going to weld a flange on the injen pipe this week for a greddy type S, that should fix the bov leak. Also doing the ACT clutch.

The 12.58 @ 20psi and went down to 12.35 from driving alone. I have been racing AWD DSM's for 6 years now. Unfortunatly the stock clutch is the weak link..it won't allow the launch to be as quick as power/traction/weight should allow. with an good clutch the ET could be as good as 12.1 @ 108.

BTW...powershifting by my definition is just keeping the throttle down during the shift, using the clutch as normal. No bov opening, no turbo slowdown, no ecu TPS trim adjustments. Granted the trans may break..oh well...I want to run the best possible ET/MPH so Im willing to deal with it when it happens. gotta pay to play

BTW Evo8power...did you have a logger on your 28psi runs? What was the airflow #s?

Yes...the 12.3 was beating up the trans pretty bad...hence why i did it one run once I got the launch and mph as good as I felt was possible. Id be pissed to break the trans on a pass that the launch wasn't good...that's a waste.

Seems the final drive ratio is short on the evo compared to an awd dsm. I was coming through the traps at ~7200rpm in 4th on 108mph runs. I wonder if im getting a little clutch slip up top too? The 1-2 powershift on the last run seemed to improve the 60' time, even though the launch didn't seem any better than the previous few. Leads me to belive the 1-2 shift is happening before the 60' timer. If so...could be clutch slipping or could be really short gears. SO what rpm are you guys going through the traps at?

Great run period. You are the type that can get an Evo in the 11s at 112-113mph trap speeds with maybe just an intercooler and cams remaining to get the job done.

I found my stock bov to be leaking as well. I put my HKS bov on last week and seen the boost go from 20.5 to 25 just by changing it out. I must have had to crank it up just to get the stocker to hold the 20.5 psi i needed when I got my reflash.

BTW.....congrats on the times. I still haven't been able to take my car to a 1/4 track yet.
