Wasn't satisfied with E-town, so I went to MIR...

I tell ya...trying to make history and break records is not recommended in the middle of August. Oh well, I don't like excuses, so I won't make any - I'll just mention it was 95 degrees, ouch!

The good news is that I beat my old best time of 12.228 on 4 separate passes today in the extreme heat at Maryland International Raceway.

My two best were both 12.153, one at 110.7 and the other at 109.50.

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b336/warrtalon/12.jpg

The reason why one had only 109.50 mph was because I got to the rev limiter in 4th a bit sooner due to the much better 60' and the longer I'm on the limiter, the lower my mph is. The one with 110.7 didn't hit the limiter until right at the finish line, so I was at the max allowable mph in 4th. I have now hit 110.7 4-5 times with the highest being 110.78, so this has to be the limit in 4th on the stock ECU.

It's interesting how the faster mph run had a crappy 60' (1.76), but that I made up that .06 difference off the line gradually at each waypoint, so either my shifting was better or the car was just running at that boost level more smoothly. On one of my runs I was breaking up at full boost, so I slapped in my first set of replacement plugs (BPR8ES), and then ran the 2nd 12.153 that had the bad 60'. I probably needed the plugs earlier, because I kept feeling a slight hesitation after my hard shifts the moment the boost spiked, but I had thought it was timing. There was no pulled timing in my logs, so maybe it was the spark getting blown out or the stock plugs getting toasted. I ran better afterwards, but now I'm getting some misfires on street boost/gas/tune, so I'll need to get some BPR7ES for daily driving I think.

Last thing...I'm not sure why I can't hit a 1.6x 60'. MIR was way sticker than E-town, so I was able to hit several 1.70 60's (best ever so far), but there were a few times where I launched too hard and got 1.76s with slight tire spin. E-town was a joke - I was spinning all 4 through most of 1st gear. Perhaps my method isn't good enough for 1.6s on this setup, or maybe it was the heat...I don't really know. All I DO know is that the best I could have gotten on a perfect run would have been maybe 12.10 or 12.09. I have no chance at 11s without some mid 1.6x 60's...or maybe if it's 65-70 degrees instead of 95. We'll see later in the year...

sick times! what did u gap your plugs at?!
edit- i see your running a full tbe now also-welcome to early spool up heaven!

Those are still good times and speeds, especially in the heat.

Just wait till the weather cools down.

Also on your TBE , what are you running for a cat... highflow, testpipe or stock ?

Test pipe this time. I thought that would be enough to help me get 10s, but it was 15 degrees hotter than when I hit 12.22 while still on the cat. The cranked boost, leaner settings and higher octane didn't seem to help much, since I can't get over 110.7 no matter what.

I didn't have time to gap the plugs. I just had to hope they were close to right. I will be checking the gap now that I'm home and making sure they're at .24-.26 or so...

Are you planning on going further with modifications,
or seeing if you can push it further with your current setup, tuning
and colder weather ?

Nothing anytime soon, but the only other mods I plan on doing will be unnoticeable for the most part:

1) Ported 02
2) Ported Exhaust Mani (or tubular, though it can't be hidden)
3) Upgraded Wastegate Actuator
4) 680/720 injectors for S-AFC purposes

That's it...now, I guess I'm waiting on cooler weather. Even 70-80 degrees would probably help a lot. Or, if I could figure out a way to get mid 1.6x 60's on this ACT. I may just not be good enough, but we'll have to see how it goes.

That should be interesting. Keep us posted. {thumbup}

What rpm are you revving to? I wonder how much cooler temps will effect the times. I was trapping 112 on a 85 degree day and 109 on a 97 degree day. I can't wait for some upper 60's, but then traction may be more of an issue.

Turbojunkie, I launch way up high now with the ACT, so the 5k limiter stays unplugged.

SirLurksALot, I am now revving up as high as 6500, because the ACT is grabbing hard. Remember, that I don't dump at this rpm, but rather start my feather, then let it rip when I feel the clutch grab. MIR was very sticky, so I was having to rip it hard off the line.

Yeah, I am really looking forward to some runs in 70 degree weather.

Nice times you should be great with cooler temps!

i thought u wanted to be the 1st evo in the 11's with the stock downpipe
