Evo + Strip + HP for 10's = How much reliability?

Does anyone with enough horsepower to get in the 10's have any amount of actual reliability at the track? I ran my Evo which was relatively standard and best time of 12.1 very reliably at the track every few months for 4 years.

Now I have a 2.4 and GT35R and the amount of drivetrain failures is insane.

I have friends with some power in Evo 9's... they've cracked gearbox cases, broke diffs, etc just like me.

Are my experiences unique?

yea same stuff now its time for u to get another car and leave it for the track and a weekend car

on race gas it is more then possible, but it would have to be a well put together car, your best bet would be to just pick up a cheap backup dd for when there is downtime on the evo.

it all depends on how you drive the beast...its very hard to drive a high whp evo gently...they just want to be ripped on..

Nope it's the double edged sword called AWD!! CARNAGE!!!

EVOlution561 Jan 20, 2008 07:42 PM

Well it's obvious that the more power you have the more stress to the drivetrain parts. Unless you are into competition drag racing I would just enjoy the car on the streets from rolls so not a lot of stress goes to to everything. Go to the track run the time you want and then enjoy the car on the street.

Right so it sounds like there really isn't anyone out there who goes to the track let's say once a month and runs a couple passes in the 10's... and just keeps this up several months in a row without any drivetrain failures?

evolved83 Jan 21, 2008 10:38 AM

have you upgraded your drivetrain? trans, transfer case, diff?

crcain Jan 21, 2008 02:41 PM

No I've kept replacing with stock parts. Which has been a big mistake.

I have Kaaz front and center diff on order now so I'm hoping this helps A LOT.

If not I give up and no more track. :(

I've had my last E7 since 2001- 2007
Ran a best time of 11.3
Never had a gearbox problem, t- case problem, axle problem, diff etc...
all those were perfect..and I'd launch that car hard! As many as 40 races @ the strip per month
Pretty sure that a mid 10sec car shouldn't have any of those problems with good driving.

But with my new project..mods in my sig...I'm gonna do all that up front. Gearbox and t-case by shep...stage 5 axles etc...
This way I'd avoid all the breaking (if any were to happen) and once I've got a good tune...It should be more than reliable.

40 RACES PER WEEKEND!

Wow man.. I've never seen an Evo abused like that. Good stuff.

OKIX Jan 22, 2008 06:45 AM

knock on wood......but not one drivetrain failure yet.

oh damn bro..
what a typo!
I meant per month! sorry:crap:

but there was a time where we had racing every Sunday at which point I'd go every Sunday and get a minimum of 10 passes

Many people down here with evos asked me how many t-cases and gearboxes I went through..
the answer...0
They asked how....

My reasoning is...get a damn good clutch...I had the HKS GD max twin disc and the RPS twin carbon...
this way you can launch your car very hard and slip the clutch nice and long..at least for a few feet til the car is completely rolling
Much better than jumping off the clutch fast and having a hard shock pass through the drivetrain....which is what many evo owners here did....result..broken t-case,diffs etc
that breaks parts!
