launching with "slicks"
does anybody here run there evo with some kind of drag / slick tires such as the DOT approved Nittos or bf goodrich drag tires
i would imagine it being a good idea to pick up an aftermarket cutch since there would be alot of clutch slip due to the increased grip, or would that put a larger amount of stress on the tranny if you werent feathering the clutch as much since you could let it out faster.. |
I would definitely not do that on your stock clutch
|
but why use slicks? are your rear wheels spinning? the fronts?
I would just try some autocross tires. slicks are gonna make you bog like a mutha******* if you are not really privy on launching. |
Unless you're putting down an insane amount of power, drag slick is really not necessary for an AWD car like the EVO8. Lowering your tire pressure slightly should really fix the problem for you, and that is, if you are putting down some serious power.
|
You dont need slicks, slicks are for your mustangs. There should be no tire spinning you have AWD and if you launch right there will be no tire spinning even at say 6K launch. AL has a 11s 1/4 and he uses stock tires... They are the best!

Umm... Other than outright disconnecting the driveshaft to the rear, how would you expect to heat a sticky tire up?
|
youre gonna need a lot or power to need mroe then the stock a046's.....
however....with a 2.5 and bridgestone re070 225/45....you can pull 1.674 660ft's...with only a downpipe......i know from experience |
you have higher gearing :)
|
AWD = no slicks needed for under 600 whp
|
I remember seeing a red WRX in a magazine that uses BFG drag radials and it runs 10s or 9s. I think you can run drag radials, but remember to upgrade everything involved in putting the power down sufficiently because you're bound to break something if you don't modify intelligently.
