Launch

So last night I decided to commit 100% and do my first serious launch all I can say is HOLY **** ! This thing is freaking nuts off the line! I have had my exedy twin hd in for a while now and have done 2-3 half a**ed launches and it didnt really impress me but last night wow, I dont know if it is from the clutch being signifigantly broken in now or commiting 100% but it was sick.

Probably a lame *** post but who cares it rocked!

If you feel very surprised (and a little scared) when you launched, you did it correctly.

My 2 step is set to 5500, I was told by someone from a shop close to me that when you go to launch you should slightly engage the clutch to make sure the gears are touching and then right before you go to launch punch it and once you hit the 2step release the clutch. Dont know if this is right but it sure as hell felt like it.

I was so surprised its not even funny, my friend who is in town has never been in an evo was stunned at the power this thing has, especially how quick it squats and dips!

Just remember that sometimes when you first hit the 2-step that it induces (sp) knock and you will want to wait until it is gone and you build boost before you launch.

I would suggest that you have your laptop connected and logging with some gauges on there so it will be easy to see your knock count.

Once you get to zero knock you are free to let it rip.

Also remember that with the Exedy it will clamp much better than a stock clutch and depending on your power level you may want to slip it a tad more than you described earlier.

But oh yea, it is an awesome feeling when you finally trully launch the car.

Good to know thanks Brad, I'm putting down 342whp (dynojet) right now so I would assume the higher the power level the more you will want to slip it right?

This may sound silly, but make sure you're in a financial position that a clutch replacement in the future isn't a problem. Probably won't need a new one for a while, but things do happen. You'll get a better launch without the clutch pill, but you'll wear more.

just wanted to add to this, if you ease into your 2-step your chances of knock are decreased alot.

can someone describe the 2 step a little more? I don't really understand how it works. I launched the car pretty hard today for the first time, (got it saturday) and it just lit up the tires for about 2 seconds, so it didn't pull too too hard right away.
