Why I don't push it in the canyons
Some of my friends STILL can't figure out why I am so crazed over autocross and love driving fast so much, but still refuse to push the limits while driving through the canyons. Others tell me autocross and track time is too expensive ($25 is less than dinner and a movie, if you think about it). Well, THIS is much more expensive than autocrossing. And even if they didn't have to pay with their lives, paying thousands of dollars for insurance after totalling a car while speeding costs much more than autocross. Paying for speeding tickets cost more than autocross. And I will never drown to death trapped in my own car while autocrossing. Bless Justin and Evan's souls, and may others learn from their example.

I am sorry to hear he died.
Check your tire pressure guys.
There is probably 1 evo out there that has a low tire and this check could save a life.

Plus, no matter how good of a street driver you think you are, it's just not as much fun to beat on your car on the street when you've been spoiled by driving hard on the track!

The Evo is faster than most drivers can handle anyway. How many Evo owners can honestly say they're pushing their cars to 100% of their limits? So what's the point of dropping thousands to raise the limits of the car when the limits of the driver are so much lower? That mod money is much better spent on advanced driving education.

This is why I quit street racing. I lost a close friend of mine four years ago when he got into a head on colision street racing. Right after that happened, I started going to the track and relized that it was much more enjoyable there to race and I didn't have to worry so much about kill somebody or myself.
I do track events all the time and I always go slow on the interstate, if I do go fast it's when no one is around. The way I think about it is it worth killing someone to be "Ko0l" on the street. Take it to the track.

Not everyone is fortunate enough to go to a track, it could be $$ or distance to a track....but we all dream otherwise we would not love our cars so much and want so much for them....i wish i could go to a track or take a driving class..but i cant afford it and dont even think there is one close enough to me to go...i do drive fast...enough were people tell me to slow down...i do worry sometimes, i just drive defensively...things happen for a reason. hell i lost my best friend due to a car accident and she was only 21. she was not speeding just due to it being cold and a little bit of black ice fishtailed and flipped repeatively...now i have no friend and still drive the way i do because we only live once.....think of good of #3 what better way to go then to do something you love....sorry...didnt mean to go on like that
Fiesty. If you can afford a meal this week, you can afford to learn how to drive at an autocross. some Drivers Education Evens might cost you three meals, maybe less if you and a friend go learn to drive. Heck you can even compoare each others driving techniques in the same car . There is no excuse for driving irresponsibly or fast on the street. It is much cheaper to do it legally and safely. And it's more fun.

My only issue about driving fast on the streets is the other people's lives at stake. I think anyone should have the right to endanger their own lives and health, but to do something that puts others at risk is infringing on their rights to live as they please (long and boring, if that be their choice).
As for places to race, try the links posted above, or go to www.scca.org and click around, autocross links and regional links. Chances are, there's a place within an hours drive where you can have safe, affordable fun. By all means, live life until you die happy, just respect others too
edit: and I still drive fast too, just not even close to the limits of my vehicle or many unforeseen interferences.
