How do you power shift in an auto? My understanding of power shifting in a manual is keeping your foot on the gas while clutching and shifting. If you mean manually shifting your auto up and down for corners and such, it will F up your tranny so fast you won't believe it.

If you want to manualy shift a automatic trans you had better get it built for it. That meas going to a good tranny shop and having the trans built up for race and a reverse manual vavle body put in, or a really good normal valve body and a ratchet shifter. I don't even know if the auto for the lancer can be made strong enough; but if it's anything like the streginth of a built th400 or as such then manually shifting is perfectly fine. Bottom line is; If it's strong enough and built right it's fine, if not then say good by tranny.

For those who powershift their MT, at what RPM are you clutching in?

My understanding is that power shifting is when you don't take your foot off the gas. So when you put the clutch in, the engine revs up really high and gives the wheels a kick forward when you engage the clutch in the new gear. Not sure if it has any benefit, though, because you have to shift at a lower RPM to avoid rev limiter.

Yes it's possible, especially with synchronized gears. Not a good idea, but possible.

edit: Why does everybody call themselves an idiot if I correct them on something? These are valid questions, just like me not understanding what double-clutching is. I don't even know what it's called when you shift without a clutch... maybe I'm an idiot too. We're all just one big world of idiots!!!

You're already powershifting with Automatic.

I tried it with EVO and man, it's near impossible to power shift. The gears too stiff to power my way through it.

I got so many kick backs from missing it...

i thought powershifting was when u push it to beginning of redline and jam it into the next gear...Idk what double clutching is either..all i can think of is u use the clutch like you would a semi and press the clutch when changing to another gear and when u a puttin it into gear

naw, power shifting is when you don't take your foot off the gas. As for double clutching, reading all the threads on this site make me more confused as to its definition than I was before!!!

Powewshifting=Shifting as hard and as quickly as possible.
BTW, if downshifting an auto into turns and manually shifting it also is so bad, why do 50% of all the worlds cars have what Porsche coined "Tiptronic" style trannies that differ in NO WAY from a normal tranny, other than solenoids to activate the valve bodies?

power shifting is shifting with the D-1, D-2, D-3 settings that most automatic cars have. it isn't always horrible, but think about what you're actually doing, are D-1, D-2, etc. really just gear shifts like manual? of course it's not, auto trannies aren't built that way.
