tight uturns

a buddy of mine has a miata that he can whip around with little effort. He turns the wheel and yanks the e brake and the car just spins 180 and goes the other way.

i've tried this in my evo in an empty private lot, but can't get the car to pivot tight enough. that, and the car just comes to a stop.

is there a particular speed you need to be going for the turn to be effective?

Also, does anyone know of any good driving schools in so cal?

he said kick... not dump. aka pop the clutch which will lead to problems. even if you know how to do it right.

sorry i'm retarded. i'm used to driving trucks in the desert. this is new to me

i know he said kick, but i'm not sure what that means. how does kicking the clutch help? i'm guessing that to get the rear to whip around you want to lose traction..and the only way i can think to do that is lock them up or dump the clutch. what do you mean by kick?

and when you say pump, you mean just pull it real quick and let it back down fast right?

sorry for my ignorance.

i've heard of heel toe..but have never done it..nor know how...i've read it's complicated.

while keeping your foot on the gas press in the clutch in all the way and bring it back out as fast as you can..this will make your car rev higher and break loose...

if you pull the hand brake on dry pavement you have a good chance of ruining the center differtential since it's not electronic controlled (like the jdm model)

thanks for that info. i was wondering if it was bad for the car considering it was AWD. I'm glad I didn't try it too much. i think i tried it 3 times and gave up. the first couple times I barely even pulled the ebrake. i was afraid to thinking i might break something

Cars with rear disc brakes usually don't have very strong handbrakes due to the design of the handbrake.

Cars with rear drums usually can slide the rear end without any problems.

the bigger problem is most definitely that the center differential is attempting to lock the front wheels when you lock the rear.

bad idea...
do your hairpins in the dirt.

buy a drifting video. I wish I could remember the name, but there was this video where this guy explained the basics of drifting, starting with the ebrake slide etc. Was in Japanese with subtitles.
