Poor Gas Mileage

Hi Al, I've got another question for you. I seem to be getting very poor gas mileage since being flashed. Poor, as in my gas light came on at 155 miles today. I put fuel in and it took 12 gallons, which adds up to about 13 miles/gallon. Keep in mind that this is not tracking or WOT driving, this is regular daily driven miles with the occasional hard pull (as in maybe one per day.) Obviously, something's not right, so I was wondering if you knew what that might be? I know cars that have a lot more mods than mine and making far more power that get better gas mileage. Just as a refresher, the only mods I have are a turboback exhaust and and AEM intake.

Not sure what the problem is here. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

If I recall - back on October 22, 2003 - you posted the following thread about your boost falling down with the Hallman Boost Controller and my flash :

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=104842

At that time after a few questions to ascertain what your set up was and recall who you were (its sometimes hard to remember the screen names, real names and cars and keep them all staight) - I had the following to say :

I will be at Pruven most of Monday and Tuesday this week

Give me a call - and we can arrange a meeting to look over your car. It will only take me a few minutes to find the problem

With that Hallman and a install by Pruven the boost should be almost rock steady till just about 7,000 rpms then it should gradualy taper down one psi to the red line
You then poste you would call

I'm still waiting for you to call !

I've been at Pruven almost every day this week and was there all day today.

I will prob be there Monday or Tuesday of next week.

Please give me a call so we can arrange an appointment to look over your car and find out what is going on.

As far as fuel ecomony and the Reflash - let me say that we RETAIN the identical 14.6 a/f ratio as stock on closed loop - AND - we significantly lean out the full throttle or open loop mapping. In almost every case, with the flash your fuel economy will improve slightly - (although not dramatically).

In YOUR CASE - the significant boost taper with the Hallman Boost Controller which you were reporting back on October 22 - combined with the poor fuel economy which you are reporting today have me almost 100% convinced you have a mecahnical issue such as a boost leak, etc. You would be suprized how many cars develop boost leaks around the fmic pipe couplings, bov or vacum lines. Also, you may have need for new spark plugs. Also, if you recall at the time of your tune, your stock fuel pump was on the edge of its capacity. In any event - when you can get your car over we can go over it and determine what is the culprit.

As I told you before - there will be no charge at all for a brief diagnostic review of your car.

I urge you to make it a point to get you car over as quickly as you can as the kind of problems which may be causing your reported conditions may be detrimental to your car.

Best regards
