I run a tad less timing in that area to prevent against any knock - its peak cyl pressure zone

That area is so slight you can not even feel the dip what so ever

Is that a trouble zone for EVOs? I thought the higher RPMs would be more knock prone. It does look like the power continues to rise in the upper RPMs after the slight dip

Just a reflash will gain you 25 of tq. SAFC advances your ign timing too much and the ecu winds up pulling too much timing.

The flash can seperately adjust fuel and ign and therefore can make more tq.

hey Al.....

i see that these new MRs are making quite a bit of power compared to the other evo's. i have an 04 and it seems that it takes quite a bit of mods just to reach what was achieved with the MR. my question is this-are they making more power due to JUST the 10.5 hotside OR do they have a different cam profile?? has anyone looked into this or even spec'ed one out??

Every car is different however on this particular car the area of knock was near the point of peak cyl pressure or 5300 rpms

After that area the car was clean to red line

Other ars may have knock problems at higher rpms - paricularly if they do not have good freeflowing exhausts

I have not had a chance to examine the cams yet - however to me it looks like most of the power gains come from the new design turbo set up which is killer whne you start to riase the boost near 20 psi

Note* - We have seen similar gains looking at 03 evos and 05 evos which both have HKS 264 cams - the same power gains on the 05's - so it seems the turbo is the likely source of the additional power

Revised 10.5cm^2 turbine housing (from the previous 10.5 version) and a revised compressor housing. That's it.
