Case Study number 56 - Robs - weak *** tune with alcohol

This today's 1st mission on the dyno

BR Alcohol kit
Tomie cams
3" exhuast - high flow cat
cone intake (dirty)
upper fmic pipe, stock fmic
Blitz SBC ID EBC
Walbro pump
93 Octane fuel
O2 housing

This car comes by way of another tuning house that had tuned a UTEC on thsi car and I dont know how it can be making such low power with all these mods

The customer came down to me after having had a lot of frustration with no having his car run properly and having a lot of detonation and rough running

I am going to now remove the UTEC and see what I can do with my flash tuning

No kidding.

The AFR's are 11.00 which is good. Maybe the Utec tuner got confused and retarded timing instead of adding it .

I'm sure you get good results from the alky injection on this one like you did in GA. I say ditch the UTEC

Are there any tuner shops out there that fully know how to tune using the UTEC? You think those numbers are bad you should have seen mine a month or so ago.

Testing the car with the base flash we only net a few tq - obviously something is wrong

A quick boost leak test shows that the car is leaking boost like mad down underneath the turbo

Pulling the car in the air we can see the turbo discharge pipe is leaking

The turbo discharge pipe - Helix - is warped and distored by a large degree creating the significant boost leak

We will also test compression and can timing before we put the car back on the dyno

More news later

i bet the tune on the utec is just fine. Just that the car sprung up some mechanical problems that throw off the tune. Then everyone blames the tune. Everyone blaming the utec, hah, shows how much you know.

Compression good, cam timing is perfect - a new set of BR7ES plugs and here we are

1st tune vs final tune with Dyno Flash

Final sheet is here

Remember - tuning is only half the war - careful parts installation and watching for boost leaks is key

(Also this guy had a very restrictive fujibitisu exhasut with two resonators and cat b/c he has small children)

Was he still experiencing problems? HP seems low for that set up, but the torque looks about right.

His cat and very restrictive exhuast are no doubt restricting the flow up top

Also - today was one of the hotest days ever here and all cars were down on power
