MBC or stock boost control?

My setup is a buschur intake, bullet exhaust, and Dynoflash.

I am VERY happy with how the car is running!!!

I just had a question about whether or not to add an MBC to this combo. Just with Al's flash, the boost maxes at 21 and only tapers to 19. I know with an MBC a Fuel pump is required.

My question is why should I get an MBC when the stock evo boost system seems to be running the ideal pressures anyways? It is not adviseable to crank the boost over 21 without more substantial mods, correct??

think both will be fine for normal daily driving. The MBC is good for Higher Octane situations, every once in a while

Seems you have decent boost now - if you are happy with the way the boost is working now there is something to be said for leavcing it alone

Of course doing a fuel pump and a MBC is nice as you can press things a bit further when you are in the mood also

Both are rational approaches

I personally like the total control of the MBC approach but each method has pros and cons

That sounds awesome to me ....I went the MBC route and am only boosting to ~22 psi but think that my boost falls to ~18 psi by redline. I would prefer to have the ECU control the boost and will be going back to the stock setup (w/o restrictor pill).

If Al could program the boost in the ECU to like 22 or 23, that would be AWESOME!!!! Just my $0.02....

If you don't ever plan on going over 21 psi. then don't get an MBC.

I think this should read, if you want to be able to manually adjust your boost then a MBC may be the right solution for you.

You can control the boost via the ECU and it can be programmed however you like....There are many that have the ECU pushing 22 - 24 psi on the IXs (with no MBC).....

I have had both flash boost control and MBC.

Both work well. MBC gives you more control. The ECU controlling boost might be more safe for your engine.

I love my hks iv ebc. Main reason I opted for the electronic over the manual was the ability to hook up a scramble boost which allows you to run a specified boost for a specified amount of time. Plus it desplays my boost in mmHg and bars while my boost gauge is in psi. Can't go wrong with on-the-fly conversions.

It doesn't work that way. The flash can't just set the boost at whatever psi. It has to be done through boost hose/pill modifications. There's not a setting for 21, 22, 23, 24psi or whatever that you just select when tuning.

But having a MBC (or electronic) allows the users to set boost parameters w/o having to tinkle w/boost hoose & pill mod? Good info...!

I went with the ECU controlling boost, I peak at 21lbs and then taper down to 17-18lbs by redline using a different boost hose/pill modification. If I would occasionally run race gas and wanted more control, I would have gone with an MBC, but I am pretty happy with the performance of it now.

Does Al supply the the boost hose pill, when you get a custom tune?

When I got custom tuned, yes, he did supply it.

So would you recommend a MBC instead EBC? Which will give me more precise and stable boost control? I know there's a search but this thread also seems as anappropriate place to ask. Thx!

A lot of people prefer MBC over EBC.
