Monkey OFF my back ! 9.7 1/4 mile !
Guys, Its been quite a few weeks since the driveline melt down at Atco on the 21st of May
I feel like someone who has been constapated for some time and finally moved his bowels - its a really great clean feeling
As many of you may / may not know last May of 2005 I went 9.98 @ 137 mph my previous best time and ONLY time into the 9''s - I did this with a GT 35 R turbo and it was up till this weekend the fastest anyone ever went on that turbo
My problem was that one of my pals had helped me to do some conversion and set up on my AEM tuning file and thus I have had to hear a bunch of fools for the past year and a half saying that I only went 9's one time by accident and that i did not even tune my own car to do it - it started to annoy me but I felt contsricted to respond to such idiotic remarks, I felt it would be easier just to go even faster to shut them up - problem was it was not that easy to do
Those who may have followed many of my posts here over the past few months are aware of what steps and work I have done with the car to try and move it up to the next level
The first move I made last June wound up wasting a lot of time testing th GT40 R which made a bit more power than the 35 but was not really a good "fit" on evos - it seems to work better for honda applications
This year thanks to Shearer fabrication and Buschur racing I moved up to the Gt42 which has really shown a lot of potential
My time with the 42 thus far has been filed with four phases of problems which needed to be resolved
The first one was fueling - David Buschur came through with some slick upgraded walbro fuel pumps which fit right in my ATL fuel cell which solved that problem
The second phase was a realization that the powerband of the 42 is more suited to a lower stroke than the 2.3 L that I previously had to it was time to de-stroke the motor and once again Buschur Racing really came through with a great motor program which has proven bullet proof
The 3rd issue was driveline breakage and suspension. With the extra power of the GT42 my car was literally doing a wheely off the line and spinning the front tires and shocking my power train
Thanks to Tein R & D tech dept I now have a great suspension which has the car leaving the line very well - will post a video later
Finally, with the car ready to roll and after smashig the transfer case and trans at the last race it was a huge rush to find time to get the car bolted together in time for the big race in Ohio this weekend
When I got to Ohio the car would not run well at all - it was breaking up when ever I hit boost
Time for diagnosis 101 just like I have learned on thousands of customer's cars
I will take you through my diagnosis procedure for those who may be interested in what to test - check - when you have a miss fire condition
1 - Boost leaks
2 - Spark plugs
3 - Compression
4 - Change coils
5 - Change fuel
6 - Change ignition
7 - Check injectors and wiring harness
8 - Change ecu map and dwell settings
9 - Try different brand of spark plug
At this point it was race morning at the track and my car was still breaking up like crazy and I was so discusted that I was ready to go home
Luckily David Buschur offered to let me try his AEM EMS out of the time attack car which was on display and that wlong with a Buschur COP ignition had me ready to hit the track again
It was amazing how well the car fired and ran with the same tune from the Buschur Black Evo - the two cars are nearly identical except BR uses Revolver cams and I use Forced Performace cams
After a brief few pulls up and down the road in front of the track to dial in the a/f in a very gross manner I pulled off a stunning 9.7 @ 145 at 38 psi
I was in a total state of shock, the feeling is something which I can not really describe - its really amazing
and then
9.9 @ 150 at 40 psi with a soft launch
I was over joyed !
First it showed me that hard work and effort can pay off. Secondly it showed me that as long as you have hope and keep moving anything is possible.
Now my car is solidly in the 9's with a weight of 3200 lbs (including me) and with a full exhuast muffler and staight race gas - (no alcohol or nos)
I am not sure what my next steps - if any - will be with the car but I finally feel that I have gone fast enough with it and I can relax not needing to prove anything to anyone at this point
I want to take this chance to thank my many sponsors who have helped along the way to assit me in building this car and following my dream
Buschur Racing
Exedy Racing
Shep Trans
AEM Electronics
Tein
Drive Shaft Shop
Forced Performance
Forge Motorsports
Ferrea valves
Thanks also to my many loyal customers for your support and patience as the racing pursuit as taken much of my time and lead to delays in customer support response
For those haters who have insulted me, talked smack behind my back and wished failure upon me . . . . well what can I say ? Get out from behind the key board and do something with your life.

Wow awesome , Amazing what some knowlege can do these days huh, Although my goals are far more modest than your's, I was wondering if you were on an off the shelf product from Tein. Or if its a one off top secret setup? Also I was wondering if your AEM was having a malfunction or if the coil on plug gave you the more spark energy to not break up under really high cyl pressure? congrats! now gut that damn thing and go faster!!

I am using the super light weight and fully adjustable "Super Racing" set up with independant 16 x 16 way adjustment per strut
Tein will give anyone who needs it the same drag style valving and spring set up but it can also be dailedin for any other form of motorsports
al great job. you dont have to prove yourself to no one. look at what you make of other peoples evo's that there is proff enoff. i think your a gret guy and work hard for what you got. you run a 1 man show but seem to make it right for everyone when things get hard going. not many people can do that. i think as you play with that monster of your's you will be over welmed with what you built. its all coming around now as it did in the past. i see it as your eather a step ahead of everyone or right there with them. what more could you ask for. like everyone else says to everyone. you pay the bill you built the car you prove yourself to your self and no one else. witch you have done more then that. me and 90% of the forum are happy for you and want you to do more in the future cause we know you can and will. what more could a guy ask for. besides more power and boost. Al great job in your project and what you have become to the evolution tunning world. you proved enoff to us. your one of the best. keep it up. your new song Al is nelly #1 go listen to it. your earned that tittle years ago and still hold it. il stop blabing. nuff said.
damn you guys are the MAN!! hahaha i wish i had friends to help me out with my car when its pooping on me....and especially before hittin the track like how u said damn....you should feel raelly lucky because not everyone gets it as good as you do....but yes CONGRATS!!!

Congrats on the time! Now if you only were about 5' 9" and 150 lbs we would see some 9.4s and lower on that first launch. Come on Al, let's get you a personal trainer. You da Man. I would love to see you break in to the 8's.
