All my dyno testing was done at the same location w/ same settings on the Mustang Dyno. All runs were done at least 3 times, with no major deviation between runs (<5HP/lb-ft). Selected runs for reporting purposes were chosen as the "cleanest" runs. All runs were done in 3rd gear. Gas is 92 pump gas in the Redmond/Seattle WA area.

Stock:
HP - 250.1@6250RPM
TQ - 249.1@3750RPM
Boost spikes at ~17PSI@ 3500, dribbles off to 15PSI@ 6500
Torque curve hits peak of 249@3750 and starts to fall off sharply from 205@5500
Car is running pretty rich... A/F is 11.0@4000 dropping to 10.5@6000

Injen Intake; Injen Intercooler Pipes; Buschur Exhaust; Walbro Fuel Pump:
HP - 267.7@6750RPM
TQ - 242.6@3750RPM
I don't have the details of this run, I'll be sure to get it, but its very very similar to my baseline run. The HP/TQ curves are almost right on top of each other until 6000RPM, where the TQ doesn't fall off as quickly as stock, and HP rises to hit its new peak of 267.7. Should I have even of lost torque with these mods?

Same Mods + DynoFlash E-Flash:
HP - 280.0@7250RPM
TQ - 252.8@5000RPM (Plateau's at 3500)
Torque and HP rise faster than baseline run, but Torque is still limited to 250. Torque falls off slower than stock, and dribbles steadily down to 200@7500RPM. HP curve is right over the stock curve but continues to rise @ 6000RPM.
Boost holds at 17PSI from 3500RPM to 5000RPM, and then slowly falls to 15PSI at 7000RPM.
A/F is smooth. 12.8@3500RPM, 11.9@4750RPM, 11.2@6300RPM

I've seen IX's put down more power than me with similar mods. I don't know if there was an installation issue I should be concerned with, or if one of my parts just saps the potential power increase out of my system?

Someone help a noob out!
Ah - I see your problem immediately

You have no boost - or more accurately too low a boost

You need about 20 psi - 20.5 psi of boost

You may need a boost hose modification to achive the desired boost level

Contact me directly for details

I did up a PDF file of my HP/TQ curves for all 3 stages so far.

Stock, Modded, Flashed.

Still trying to figure out the most elegant way to stick in A/F and Boost...

BTW, the boost readings were from some sensor the dyno tech stuck onto my intake manifold I believe. Not sure if those are more accurate than my in-car boost gauge...

PDF file here!

Boost is too low!!You should boost 24psi on 9 due to revised head cooling passage, better knock sensor and smarter ECU.Check you boost leak, buy a MBC and raise the boost ~24psi and you should have ~335whp with TBE.

yes you need the boost, and the evo 9 loves it. In my 9 MR Last time i was on the dyno I hit 367awhp 365tq at 24psi on 93 octane fuel.

Seems like you are a noob - check how much boost the other IX drivers use.

Al did recommended an MBC or an EBC as my next step. However I didn't want to jump ahead and continue adding mods until I verified I didn't seriously fubar anything up between points A and C.

Also... I have an eBay O2 housing (turbo elbow) which again, isn't expected to produce any significant gains...but also not expected to cause power nullification...

Andifidie: Yes, the 250/249 dyno rating was much higher than I expected... which was something closer to 230-240 range.

General consensus seems to point at my relatively low boost reading? BTW, the boost score was recorded by the dyno as the pressure in the intake manifold I believe. It was a MAP reading.

Here's a copy of my stock dyno charts. I will be scanning and uploading my new one soon.

Standard
Detailed
if you consider that 12 whp and 15 torque is no power increase, then sure you can say that.

LOL

I could run 24 psi on pump gas in my 03 if i wanted to. Just a different approach to tuning.

not sure running 24psi on 92 is a good idea....

I don't understand how gaining 30whp with NO INCREASE IN BOOST is not considered awesome. Why would you have all those expensive and unnecessary mods, but not have the absolute MOST important mod on a IX for gaining power? I mean seriously...it's $85, and it lets you go from 17psi to 23psi in mere minutes with a 50-60whp jump. You will also see a HUGE jump in torque with the raised boost.

I can't believe you got all freaked out about a 30whp gain with no change in boost. The first thing you DO on an Evo is raise the boost. Why did you get a fuel pump if you were only running 17psi? That's very confusing...

Update! (Oops! Warrtalon posted while I was writing up this post. In retrospect, I realize how silly I was... I expected the boost to somehow raise itself via the ECU I guess, when I was doing my mods... But my post admits that I'm a noob!! so play nice!)

I went down to Axiom Power (Axiom Motorsports) and had a Perrin MBC installed (its what was in stock... they're all about the same... ) and had them bolt it on to their Dynapack dyno to get a gander at my results.

My previous manifold pressure at DynoAuthority (Mustang Dyno) in Redmond was ~17PSI falling to ~15PSI. Peak HP was 280@7250, Torque was 250@3500

With the MBC installed without adjusting, it was 18.5PSI to 17PSI across the entire rev range. Results are SAE corrected and obtained on a Dynapack. Peak HP was 290@7000, Torque was 270@3000. This makes sense I guess and matches up with the results on the Mustang Dyno.

The installer then set the MBC to 21PSI, and I was boosting 21PSI@2750 falling to 20PSI@4500 and then to 19PSI@7000... much better than I was hoping for... I really feared the infamous boost drop on the Mivec 9's. Peak HP was 304@7000 and torque was 294@3150.

My peak HP on the Dynapacks should probably be higher, as the curve was still rising when the measurements cut off @ 7000RPM.

Looking at my power curves, there is definitely some room for fine tuning. Unfortunately the my runs didn't include A/F readings, so I'll send updated dyno results with the MBC set at 23PSI from the Mustang dyno to Al for my free fine-tune flash update.

The power is definitely coming...

A 50lb-ft of torque and another 20hp gained after installing the boost controller and setting it @ 21PSI, with significantly more potential judging from the power curves.

Will update this post later with HP/TQ curves overlayed.

Turbotrix tune, walboro, catless tbe, hallman boost controller, intake and i pulled 342whp and 331wtq in 80degree weather with 80% humidity. 24 psi on 93 tapering to 22psi.
