P & L Chicago visit by Al
P & L Chicago visit by Al
Hey all, I just wanted to share my experience today having Al flash my car...He had flown in to P & L Motorsports located in Franklin Park, IL today for an all day Dynoflash tuning session and I had come in the morning to sign up for a quick 10 minute base flash. Here is what I have on the car right now:
I'll give you a bit of background on the car....I purchased the 05' Apex Silver VIII back in June of 06' and had the K&N filter and cat installed probably a month later. For some reason the car sounded horrible when the diverter let off and I discovered it was because I had purchased the car with the diverter on backwards. After that was fixed, the car ran a lot smoother, but it just didn't feel as fast as when I first got it. A huge mistake I had made was not getting the car tuned after the drop in filter (stupid me). The boost was not holding either, and would spike at about 20 psi and then drop down to 15 and then to 10. When I was in fifth it would max out at 10 and struggle when I pushed down on the gas. I figured today would be a good opportunity to at least see what my car was running with a dyno and to hopefully get those issues corrected. And with Al coming in I knew I would be working with one of the greatest...Here are the results from my 4 runs...(picture provided)
RUN1: Max Power = 166.55 Max Torque = 188.85 (HORRIBLE!!!!)
RUN2: Max Power = 222.66 Max Torque = 246.67
RUN3: Max Power = 233.65 Max Torque = 264.37
RUN4: Max Power = 236.15 Max Torque = 265.96
When Al told me how low I was initially running I was in shock. There is potential boost leakage which I will be checking out soon. There is also issues with the way my vaccuum line was hooked up to my boost gauge based on the location which I will have fixed as well. I don't know if I have even heard of any Evo running that low before, but let me tell you all that the car runs 10 times smoother now, and feels SO much faster. To push the torque up from 188 to 265 made a crazy difference and I'd like to thank Al from the bottom of my heart for fixing up my ride and letting me know what needs to be fixed.
- K & N cone drop in filter.
- AMS 3" Catback Exhaust.
- Autometer Cobalt Boost Gauge

Were you just there too? I had wanted to stay to see if the next car on the dyno was running low too but had to run. Okay so it's not as bad as I thought...but the difference is amazing
Thanks for the kind words
P & L is one amazing shop
I love this place - they are good people who work hard and respect the customer and treat customers really fairly
I can not say one bad word about my experience today - P & L went above and beyond the call of duty - they did a lot of free work for customers to help out with all sorts of problems like boost hoses comming off and fmic pipes poping etc
As for how this dyno reads - it does read on the low side from my experience with dyno jets
However - who cares what the number is - all that matters is the before and after and as with this car every car I tuned today picked up singificant gains before and after with just tuning
I am still here at P & L and I will have some more thoughts about this amazing place to post llater when I retire to my hotel
Thanks to all the customers who attended today
