popping sound

hi,

i have been noticing a pretty loud popping sound from under the car when i shift gears mostly 4th and 5 th and a few times 2nd gear and when i let go the clutch and start to accelerate slowly, i hear a pop from under. also my check engine light comes on every time i drive in very wet weather but it turns off when dry.
i could say that the sound is like a baloon pops and it happens mostly when im in low speed and drive in 4th or 5th gear( 40 mph).

any advice would be appreciated.
