One Lap Response
Inquiring minds wish me to go to the One Lap race
I will NOT be attending for serveral reasons
1 - $2100 entry fee - add in hotels and race fuel, plus broken parts and its a $5,000 plus adventure that does not fit in my budget at this time
2 - Needs TWO drivers - I won't let ANYONE else drive my Evo anytime for ANY reson - never mind on a race track. I built it by hand and its part of the family. No way anyone is driving my Evo on any track.
3 - "Racing experience or special driving schools (Track Time, Bob Bondurant, Skip Barber, Jim Russell, etc.) is required for all on-track competitors." - I have none of this so I do not qualify
4 - I rather go to the Nitto Tire Spring Nationals at Englishtown Raceway Park which is on the same days as the One Lap
5 - I am too busy with Dyno Flash and have too many tuning obligations and appointments to take a full week off - especially in the spring.
Sorry to disappoint the people voting me to enter this contest - its just not something I can fit into my schedule at this time
If you want to see me racing come to Englishtown this Saturday for the
shootout or come to the NOPI race in Virginia this Sunday
I think in total, I will be racing my car in 18 races this season all up and down the east coast - if anyone is dyning to race me there will be many chances
Thanks

I think it would be nice to prove to everyone that 11 sec EVOs can run for 6000 miles and in 8 track days without missing a beat. The kind of things one learns when tuning a car for that environment is priceless. 1/4 mile is fun but it's not exactly the best test of a street cars durability and drivability.
Just my 2c,

Please do not take this wrong, I mean no disrespect, as I do not want to start any
sort of controversy, but I would like to respond to some of this from my POV FWIW.
I know Al will not respond as he would like to and risk getting into trouble, so I will take the first bullet:
This is a quite a profound statement considering that the Vishnu sponsered entries have
suffered some sort of breakage at almost every event so far.
Good thing you have customers that will let you borrow their ride.
I guess we learned so far that your car rarely makes it to the end of the event.
I guess running a full Etown event (which is about 7-8 passes included time trials,
and taking runner-up) then driving almost non-stop to Chicago by way of Tenessee
then back again doesn't count as endurance, huh ...
IMHO, "the best test of a street cars' is actually driving them on the street, not a finely groomed
test track where sliding out of the groove means ending up in the run-off area.
Running on the highway and getting out of the groove might mean ending up under a semi.
All that being said ( ah, I feel much better now; the meds kicked in),
I wish the Vishnu team success on the OLA.
I'm serious - mag articles about the Vishnu efforts with the Evo was the first big influence
on my son's decision to get what has turned out to be a great car.
My asbestos underwear is on. Feel free to correct any factual errors.

A blown motor caused by a combination of a failing walbro and an ignition module turning to the dark side. and an abs ECU giving up the ghost on the first day didn't keep my team from finishing the OTC...and a simple clutch prob finishes the U-3 entrant? Have fun at the one lap...
