Dynoflash meets ESX - NHRA Import Nationals - update after day one
Hey guys
I am at Englishtown Raceway Park - my favorite place on earth
The evo crowd was representing STRONG today
Without a doubt one of the best days of my life
I am running in the Sport RWD class - along with EASY STREET or WRX fame and Sean Ivey - so some serious NOS blowing competition
We had a harrowing day today with tech and initially wound up in the Modified class due to a lack of carpet
Ali from EXS came through BIG time for me - a real class guy - with a very professional operation and a SUPER FAST SUBARU !!!! He gave me a much needed square of carpet - the KEY item for me - so the tech guys moved me into the Sport RWD class!!!!!!!
My Evo spend most of the day under the Toyo Tires tent - if you stop down look for me there in the AM before qualifying. BTW - super thanks to TOYO tires - my newest sponsor - I am running the Toyo R compound tires which I bought last week as a regular customer (big props to American International Mortorsports in Sonoma, Ca for the super good service and price $155 per in 235 45 17) These tires are IDEAL - I ran consistant 1.66 60's now with the tire spin totally under control. IF you though the Advan's handle good - you have to try these Toyos. The handling is razor sharp and they are super sticky off the line.
The driver meeting was a personal highlight - team Bullish, Tran, JO JO, Lisa Kubo, ESX, Vinny Ten, etc etc etc and TEAM DYNO FLASH all together - man what an honor to be in the same small room with the super tough compeditors all with amazing professionalism and respect.
BTW - Major props also to Javier Ortega director of the Import events at raceway Park for putting on the best Import race I have ever seen
ONTO the 1st round of qualifying and the much anticipated show down between myself and ALI from ESX with the world's fastest WRX. I had been gunning for him for the longest time - my dream to beat them with my EVO him the dreaded enemy who took my title as the formerly fastest WRX in the world
Now after meeting Ali and seeing his great character and very generous personality !st hand I realize that he is a true hard core racer and a great guy
Anyway
It was STI 1 and EVO o as he basically tore me a new orfice in our meeting at the track
ESX / WRX EVO
60 ' 1.551 1.666
330 4.154 4.764
1/8 6.276 7.30
MPH 115.57 95.81
1000 8.085 9.41
1/4 9.604 11.291
mph 148.36 126.16
It was great to see that team ESX are not only great merketing guys - but they are also super great car guys and they all work really professionally to interact in a positive way with the fans and other teams.
It was very exciting to me to take the shot and try and take on such an very fast car as the ESX. Techically - he did red light - but lets face reality - he killed me and his car is crazy fast !
I thnk we are quailifed 4th or 5 at the presesnt time.
Our goal right now is to play with the tune and see if we can dial in a little bit better et in the next and final qualifying round. Our goal is the qualify 3rd going into eliminations.
I will post some more info tomorrow
See you at the track I hope !

Al - Great job! I met Ali, Brian and the rest of the Easy Street guys at NOPI last weekend. They were really good guys. Ali even stopped what he was doing to help me and a friend go find John Shepherd to talk about Evo tuning. Imagine another STi guy doing that! Ali topped it off by doing a nasty, minute-long burnout in his Jag XKR on 20"s...
Al - I am also glad you're taking this new approach to your reports (ie no bashing). I've always known you to be a good guy. Now maybe some of the newbies (or the haters) will see you for the same. Keep waving the flag for us Evo guys!
Chris
P.S. I need you to come to San Diego in June to tune me for 91...

Update - came in 3rd place overall in my class behind Sean Ivey (10.3 or 4 ) and ESX which ran a 9.40 something and took the NHRA Wally - contrats to Team ESX for a great showing and a wonderful performance
In the semi final against Sean - I did my best possible performance with a 11.2 at 126 but lost to Sean's low 10 second pass
Now the good news - I think I was the fastest car there to drive in AND DRIVE HOME !
I did like 5 runs at 11.2 or so over the weekend - following the NHRA Sport RWD rules - interior w/ pass seat - full exhuast - etc etc, did not break ANYTHING - ran perfect and now I am driving the car home !!!!!!!!!!
Its one thing to show up with a 18 wheeler full of spare parts and a 9 guy crew all experts in the fields to work on a car - thats cool - major props. Its nice if you can afford that kind of budget
I am a one man show - I built the car with my own hands and the help of a few buddys - got the car ready till 2:00 a.m. the night before the race - tuned it on the way to the track, detailed it at the gate at 9:00 a.m. before the race - drove it myself and it drives home with NO TRAILER - its a DAILY DRIVER - - AND NO NOS - all turbo. IMHO the fact that I can do that - and the fact that I have been doing i t every time since the evo came out - over and over again says something about my skills and ideas of how to set up the car
I have some very WILD photos to post up with some very sexy girls you guys may enjoy - encluding one who literally pulled down her jeans to her ankles and stood there in her 1mm wide thong strap writing and wiggling all over my car
Also - I have some more great stories to post up later after I get home and have a bit more time
BIG thanks to all the Evos for representing so hard all weekend !

I hear what you are saying! I drove 2 hours to the event and my ride has almost 197,000 miles on the engine (unopened)!
It was truly great to meet you and have you take me like you did at the top of the track *major thumbs up* Major props for your sportsmanship.
I made a post on this board in the Drag Racing forum ... there is a pic there of you from Urban Racer. Let me know if you get a video of our eliminations run, I would really like a copy.
I'll see you at ATCO in 2 weeks.
Here are 2 pics of you and I that my crew got:

Your Car is nasty fast and consistant and I am sure you will be testing me big time in weeks to come ! Its nice to have the comradery and company of fellow hobiests who share the passion and enjoyment of this sport.
