HKS cams vs Std cam Ps Question
Hello al-
Great power compare between the 264 & 272 HKS cams. I feel even better now about my cam choice of 264's for my ride. However, I located a std dyno flash dyno compare ( 3" turbo bk @ 20 psi dyno @ pruven ). I pasted & plotted the stock cams against the figures above into XL. The compare showed a huge power gain, up to 40 whp in some areas with either of the HKS cams? What am I missing? The cam shaft gain seemed enormus?
I forget who's dyno sheet I used to compare to & dyno flash type.
Is this true? it would be nice to see what hks cams get you in an evo 8 with similar exhaust flash, etc.
Once again, no other flash vendor provides dyno sheets backing up their findings as well as you.
Thanks a lot!

Al- could you post up a relavent dyno plot with stk cams, 3" turboback @ 20 psi. Unfortuneley the stk dyno sheet I was referencing didnt have a name or date, however i sort of remeber there being an issue with a fuel pump or adding a fuel pump after flash?
I would imagine you would have a better compare available since the guy's dyno sheet was potentially having a problem.
thanks in advance

we tested the 264 and 272 hks cams here a couple of years ago and found very little gains to be found over stock . bye far and the best cams are the piper profiles . hks cams in the europe market are dead .

Interesting news about the piper camshafts. I had a piper camshaft in my 1380cc mini! I prefered the david vizard scatter profile a lot better. But that is completely different!!

Evo 400 why are you saying that the HKS cams make no power are you just trying to sell your Piper cams. I have seen with my own eyes cars with HKS cams making at least 20-40 whp more than non cammed cars with the same level of mods except the cams.
Maybe you mean with a turbo upgrade????

I personnaly saw a 32HP gain at peak by putting in HKS 272s. It did move the powerband up the rpm scale about 400rpms but the hit at 4000 is noticable, even on the but dyno. Oh, and I did a before and after run through the gears, tires broke loose after (in 1st) the HKS install and haden't before the install.
I also think other mods aid in the cams. If you just install cams in an otherwise stock EVO, maybe you would notice much, but with mods that aid in "breathability", they do improve power.
All mods should complement each other, just bolting on random bits woun't get much. I think many, less experienced home tuners, just go out and buy what seems hot in the mags or on forums.
Early on, when you decide to mod, you need a plan, then buy mods to get you there.
My 2c.
