Al, My timing issues

I did some datalogs back here in the heat.
Did the same thing, (I was still running CA 91oct), timing starts going up, hits 8deg by 5600, then drops to 5 deg, then begins to climb again at 6100. Climbs steady until redline, peaking at 13 deg. I made 3 pulls with the same results.

Then... I added a bottle of Lucas Octane Booster (MMT based), to my normal AZ 91 octane.
Lucas website: http://www.buylucasoil.com/viewitem.asp?itemid=10026
Same outside temps.
Timing climbed steady, hit 8 deg by 6000, no timing pulled at 5500 like before, and max timing at redline hit 16 deg.

So, I think the timing issues I had, were because of crappy gas.

What is your opinion?

You 91 octane guys should really rig up a water injection system. Even if you just use a pressure switch at 10 psi and a .6mm nozzle, you should be fine and able to run more timing and boost.

Way ahead of you. I've been reading up on it for months. If I go WI, I will get the Aquamist 2d set-up w/ the dd2s and surge accumulator and water level sensor.
I'm also looking a propane injection. I JUST passed up a chance at the Pro-Pain set-up, which is the most advanced. It went for $305 on Ebay.
Propane is 110 octane. The bottles are already DOT certified, (as they have to be).
It's like have octane boost at will. The 5lb bottle lasts about a month, about $2.50 to fill up.
I'm still learning about both.

Ah, quit reading and get it. Right now I'm using a 2D w/accumulator. DDS2's waiting to go in and when did they come out with a water level sensor? I've just been running straight up water and it makes a big difference. You can really run up timing and boost on pump gas, so you might not need those time bombs anyway. Best way to do the water is to have it kick in early. Sure you might go through it quicker, but it keeps things safe and EGT's stay low.

Malibu, you just going to keep hoarding parts or you going to install them one of these days?

LOL I keep several projects running at the same time, so stuff comes together in parallel with my hoarding.. LOL My dining room looks like the parts department of mitsubishi now though..

I would prefer the Aquamist system, it's just so expensive for what I want.
I'v have entertained the Boost Cooler system from Snow. They have a controller that's pretty cool.

They are right behind Aquamist but for half the price.
I just don't want to lean out my AFR and advance timing to have the WI system fail and I blow the motor.
I wish I lived in the land of 93 octane and 70F weather!!

In theory you can use a boost solenoid to "Kill the boost" should it detect its out of water.. (that GM boost solenoid experiment that I was doing, can be used to bypass the active boost control solenoid and drop to wastegate pressure)

Sounds like it ! If you want to run without the octane booster just send in the ecu and we will make adjustments as needed

Best regads
