'07 STI vs '06 Evo IX - Stage II - dyno comparision
I have here a really interesting dyno sheet for you
This is fresh from my tuning weekend in Ohio at Buschur Racing The two cars - dynoed same day - same dyno - same style of tuning - same tuner - me 2007 STI - Stage II - stock air box - catted DP - header - cat back exhuast - custom Buschur Flash tuned 20.5 psi peak boost 93 octane 2006 Evo IX - Stage II - Buschur Intake - Buschur 02 Housing - Buschur Turbo back exhuast with high flow cat - custom Buschur Flash tuned 21 psi max boost - 93 octane if you look at these dyno sheets - it is clear that the STI kicks the Evos butt on the dyno up to just about 7,000 rpms when they draw even Now with the new 07 STI gears which are even longer than the Evo's gears now - its going to be a very good match at the track - at these street pump gas boost levels I give the upper hand to the STI However, based upon a lot of experience - going with alcohol injection or race gas and high boost levels the Evo will make up that gap significantly while the STI is almost out of turbo This comparision shows me that the STI has made up a lot of ground vs the Evo in the past few years the 07 STI is with out a doubt the best one ever http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g3...7STIvIXEvo.jpg |
Dammit!

here is an 06 evo ix mr and 06 sti
both stock turbo both on pump 19.5 psi for the sti 23 psi for the evo sti had header, turboback, intake, fuel pump our flash evo had injen upper and intake, fuel pump, turboback our flash both catless http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...nicknickol.jpg food for thought cb |
Al is just showing that the gearing of the new 07 STI made them more of a competitor and I have been over on some Suby sites and the new 07s are running some really good numbers
I'm impressed |
wow seems like the 06 STI has close to the same numbers at the 07( the 07 maybe 10 more hp and tq across the board ) from Al's to CBRD, but CBRD's evo with similiar mods makes a good 60 more hp and 10 more tq.
interesting... MAYBE AL IS HOLDING BACK ON THE EVO SO HIS PRECIOUS SUBIES HAVE A CHANCE ;)!!! HAHAH j/k? |

Now that is some funny stuff man !
Seriously both cars were tuned the same The Buschur dyno is set on stock mustang dyno settings so it reads a bit lower stock evo ix's do about 220whp on our dyno, stis about the same. we use weather correction also, knocks the numbers down alittle. still no garauntee that they will read identical...even though they are the same dyno! cb |
The STI wouldnt happen to be stronger throughout the rev range due to the fact its a 2.5l would it?

Coming from four years of being subi owner to now an evo owner, I can say that the 07 STI has made leaps and bounds when comparing it to my 04 STI. With that said though I have yet to see an 07 STI hit the 11 second mark on the stock turbo. I think it will once it is in the right drivers hands, but the subi community is still waiting. The 07 has a upgraded VF43 turbo which is ported larger than the previous VF39 that is in the previous model years. This upgrade was mostly made to help control boost creep. It is still smaller when compared to the stock evo turbo, and still runs out of breath earlier, plus it can't be pushed much more even on race gas. There has supposedly been some head work done on the 07 motor, but this has not been verified to my knowledge. The gearing is a great step up. No more shifting into fifth at the end of the quartermile, but the stock motor can't or shouldn't spin much more past 7300 rpms. That last shift used to kill my times. Even if it does the turbo is done right around 6000 rpms. The evo motor can out spin the STI motor, so the gearing is going to help the STI, but it still won't be enough. What amazes me about the 07 STI is the amount of torque that the stock setup is capable of. I've seen some sick numbers up to around 400 ft. torque at the wheels on the stock turbo on 93 octane, and it has been done more that once. The other significant improvement to the 07 STI is the ecu. It takes to mods a lot better than previous years. There's no doubt the 07 STI would be a blast to own, but I still like me new evo and it was cheaper than a new STI so that was one reason I switched. Both cars are a blast. It will be interesting to see how much of an effect the new gearing has on the 07 STI times.

y only running 21 pounds on 93 octane 90% of evo's on 93 octane run 22-23psi safely on that octance esp the nines!!!
|
22-23psi easy riight but at the sacrifice of timing. ^^
|
(al, i was just posting to show the curves, not compare numbers.... i think we both understand how much sense that makes, variables)
........... we have run the ix's up to 25psi on pump, knock free.. cb |
Personally what i understand from this comparison is that if you want a daily driver and won't mods the car much, the STI might be a winner...
torguier and more refined... Other than that it doesn't impress my at all... personally speaking always... |
CBRD,
How can the evo ix's run 25 psi with such ease on pump gas? Also have you guys tuned any evo ix with cams? |
Im glad the STI's finally changed their gearing. I like that they are more competitive now. The VF39 turbo is definitely the only weak point of that car at this point.
