If you don't run enough timing you will induce misfires. As the piston approaches TDC the cylinder pressures start rising. With higher cylinder pressures its harder to ignite the spark. Just 1-2 degrees can sometimes make a world of difference. Also if your running a CDI box and misfiring, let out. You can damage the CDI box misfiring like that.

I use this and have the wire one the little feeler gauge works better for me and the plug specific one helps to move electrode

BPR8ES's gapped to 0.018 is all I can support, even with an HKS DLI box. but, I am around 9.7:1 compression too.

And my dang Spark Tech CDi stuff should be here soon! Woot!

Kind of surprising that a lot of people can run higher boost on .22 gaps or greater. Oh well I guess each car is different. Gotta get those plugs in. Old and Lazy is not a good combo

fyi 8 and 9s have different oem gaps. for 9s its 0.5 − 0.6 mm (0.020 − 0.024 inch). for 8s its of 0.024 - 0.028 inch. ideally bigger gaps are better but if u encounter breakups at high rpm/high boost you should lower your gap.

im on e85 with the green turbo at 28lbs boost .im gapped at .025 now that its getting colder im going to have gap down some, im getting lots of misfires , i was told to do .020

What about the Autolite XP3923 for an IX? The XP3924 is the stock replacement from Autolite. I might see if the local parts store has any in stock ... great price on them, about $7/ea.

EDIT :: Wait ... another source is telling me that the stock replacement is the XP5325 ... the reach is correct on this one, but there is no colder heat range. No luck.

Running the stock iridiums for a IX at the stock gap. No issues, but I am running the Spoolinup COP.

Checking back in. I had all kinds of blowout on my IKH24 until I gapped with a "disk-style" plug gapper. The feeler guage type gappers had me running way too wide of a gap, so be careful. I ended up with .022 and now the car pulls clean all day every day.

I was having a stuttering issue as I started to up the boost on my BBK. I swapped to stock heat range NGK's and gapped down to .22 and it was ok for about 2 weeks but the stuttering problem came back recently...I'll try to gap down to .20 and order some Denso IK24's just in case.

definitely try 20 gap on current plugs before investing in the 24's however the ikh24 might offer peace of mind as they are a colder plug which peeps like ngk themselves suggest when upping power and boost

Yeah Amazon has the best deal around so far. I gapped them down to .20 and did a 3rd gear pull....aside from missing information in a few cells it pulled smoothly again. We'll see how long it lasts.

So even though the stuttering has gone away it appears my afr's go bonkers at various different times through my 3rd gear pull. Looks like I'm ordering those Denso's after all (cheapest option right now)
