E85 vs C16

Alright so im wondering if doing a c16 tune over e85 will provide any power gains.

I know the octance difference but the question is it worth the switch?

Currently rocking stock turbo but depending on what I can gain I might do it just for those extra tens of a second.

Opinions?

Everything I've read leads me to believe E85 makes just as much power as C16.

Though the octane is very different, E85 still works its magic.

784whp has been made on E85, and just as much can be made on C16.

Same here, i have no personal experience with this but from what i've seen E85 makes just as much power. On the other hand, the C16 would probably be more consistent than the corn because the blends can very throughout the year. I found a pump that pumps true E85 most of the year so i will be buying most of my E85 there.

Bryan at GST has been making more power on E85. He has mentioned retuning several cars from C16 over to E85 and all of them made more power on E85. And it's way cheaper!

We actually made 818 on our evo on E85 now.. We have seen HP gains on E85 over q16 or c16 on every evo we have tuned so far.. The overpriced race fuel is a thing of the past IMO..

^^^They'll play.

I was a little wary. But it's really just a change to injector scaling and then a quick touchup on the fuel map to get going. Then the fun begins, when you start working with the timing and boost.

Hardest part is getting your fuel system up to the task. Do you have an adjustable FPR? You'll need that to get the twin pumps running all the time, along with modifying the return fitting in the pump housing. The mod alone wasn't enough for me. My adjustable FPR will be here Saturday.

You could run the second pump off a hobbs, but I prefer them both on all the time.

btw - re: modifiying the return fitting....

is this something obvious that I'll have to do to install the FB kit or is this something skunky dunky super 'ish?

Here's the thread about it started by Ted B. You drill out the return fitting that sits in the tank. This helps increase flow on the return line and lower the idle fuel pressure.
