Urgent help re: GM Ethanol sensor

Hi guys,

every time i search something to do with E85, i always get evolutionm.net results in google, so i thought i'd come straight to what seems the most knowledge about this all

I've just switched my R34 GTR over to E85, and have a GM ethanol content sensor currently mounted in the engine bay but not connected. Will just do the t/y pipe on return fuel line setup but the problem i have is the signal to the ECU.

I couldn't find the plug for the sensor here in Oz, so i bought one of the wiring harnesses from Zeitronix, but didn't realise that it's only meant to talk to THEIR read-out display thingy, NOT to be wired into an ECU

I'll also be installing a wideband as an additional parametre/back-up signal for the ECU, but would prefer to go primarily off the content sensor.

I guess the question is, am i stuck with having to get one of the Ethanol % coverters/read-out displays? http://www.zeitronix.com/Products/ECA/ECA.shtml - OR can i just buy a simple plug somewhere, that outputs the signal the ECU can understand?

In a nutshell, can i get the Ethanol content sensor to talk directly to the ECU (Link G4) without having an intermediary 'translating' device in between?

if anyone could share their thoughts or experiences on their setups, that would be fantastic! Need to try and sort this out as soon as possible

cheers

"THEIR read-out display thingy" talks to your ecu.

just came back to say i'm an idiot and my ECU takes the raw signal in a digital input...
D'OH!!

soooo yeah... moral of the thread, check what your ECU can do first

my bad, thanks for help though!

but that probably means the harness i bought is not what i want to get the digital signal?

The Zeitronix ECA has a built in digital to analog converter. Your ECU probably wants an analog signal, not the digital one that the ethanol converter is outputting. So, you probably need the Zeitronix ECA to convert the signal to analog and the ECA does have an analog signal output.

Note, the wiring harness that Zeitronix sells is the same design as the OEM GM wiring harness, just a lot cheaper.

http://www.zeitronix.com/Products/ECA/ECA.shtml

•Real time display of fuel ethanol content from 0% to 100%
•Displays fuel temperature in Fahrenheit and Celsius ranging from -40 to 125 °F (-40 to 52 °C)
Two analog outputs: Ethanol % and Fuel Temperature for use with datalogging or engine management systems•Surface mountable sleek aluminum enclosure with bright LED display visible even in direct sunlight
•A flex fuel sensor is required. The ECA is compatible with standard OEM sensors used in most vehicles with the flex fuel insignia or which run on E85.

thanks for the info mate

it turns out though that the ECU can take the raw digital signal just fine And the Zeitronix harness can provide the raw signal straight to the ECU so i'm actually sweet and don't need the ECA - props to Link for making ECU's accept the signal
