Question fuel maps - I'm confused

Do higher numbers mean more or less fuel? The reason I ask is that my stock high-octane map generally has highe numbers than my low octane map. To me this indicates that the numbers are proportional to (not the same as) the target AFR. However, it seems strange to me that the numbers get smaller as the load or RPM increases. At low load/RPM it's at 14.7 and at high load/RPM, it's at 8.3. Someone please explain. Thanks.

14.7 means it is leaner....stoch.
Lower numbers 8.7 etc. is rich(er).

The lower the number the more fuel (richer) The larger the number the leaner you are running and 14.7 is stoich but is rarely seen other than startup or warming..

No you have it backwards.

The HIGHER the number the more air is present so it will be LEANER and the LOWER the number the less air is present so it will be RICHER.

The number in the fuel maps represent a target AIR to FUEL ratio. so 10.5:1 = 10.5 parts of air for every 1 part of fuel.

I'm sure most everyone on here understands this already so I'm sorry for repeating such basic info.
