Cannot read ECU - Blank Prompt - Help?
Cannot read ECU - Blank Prompt - Help?
I dont own an Evo, but I'm wondering if anyone has ever had the same problem with reading the ECU that I am having with my 2002 Eclipse GS AT?
I've been trying to get EcuFlash to read my ECU for the past week with no success. My car, as previously stated, is a 2002 Eclipse GS AT. I have completely uninstalled and reinstalled EcuFlash Version 1.29 and it's drivers no less than eight times now, and I'm just getting a little frustrated.
The problem is that when I click on "Read ECU", a blank prompt pops up with "Cancel" as the only option. After looking at screen shots of what this prompt should look like, I now know that this is where I should be able to select from a list of vehicles (I understand that I should choose "2003 Eclipse Automatic Trans") - - But there are NO vehicles listed, or for that matter anything to choose but cancel.
The cable seems to be communicating with the ECU because I can use "Compare to ECU" just fine.
Everything opens with no errors, and at the bottom right hand side of the screen it says "Mitsubishi 1.3 TX" with some numerals after TX. (as opposed to saying "No Vehicle Interface.")
This thread on the Open ECU forums was somewhat helpful, but my problem is a little different in that my screen doesnt say "No Vehicle Interface", and the fix described in the thread repeatedly failed to work for me. --> http://forums.openecu.org/viewtopic.php?t=1176
Here is what it reads when I open it.
[00:04:14.828] Version 1.29.906
[00:04:14.828] 8 memory models read.
[00:04:15.187] 68 ROM metadata models read.
[00:04:15.187] checksum module "subarudbw" loaded.
[00:04:15.187] flashing tool "wrx02" loaded.
[00:04:15.187] flashing tool "wrx04" loaded.
[00:04:15.187] flashing tool "sti04" loaded.
[00:04:15.187] flashing tool "sti05" loaded.
[00:04:15.187] flashing tool "mitsukernel" loaded.
[00:04:15.187] flashing tool "mitsukernelocp" loaded.
[00:04:15.187] flashing tool "mitsubootloader" loaded.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

I found a guy here on EvoM who had the same problem I'm having.
"The laptop with Win XP pro was more problematical. Despite the clean re-install and proper driver install it still would not work because when the dialog box opened to select the correct definition to read the ecu, it was empty, nothin to select. I went thru several interations of changing the file directories making sure the correct ones were seleted...but no dice. I ended up copying the definitions from the \evo directory to the parent directory and the backup directory. Finally opened up with choices and smooth sailing from there."
Can anyone have any input? How can I copy the definitions to the parent directory?

Ok, I got it to read.
Here is what I did. I went into the "Program Files/OpenECU/EcuFlash/Romettadata/Read Templates" and copied the Read Templates. Then went to where I have Flash's rommettadata saved in EcuFlash (also where my directory is aimed at) and pasted the xml Read Templates there.
I clicked "Read ECU", and presto! There were all the optional cars that are supposed to be there.
This morning I did a read of my ECU and it worked with no errors. However, when it was asking me where the file should be defined from, I clicked the "2003 Eclipse GT AT" (there was no option for Evo7base) and my maps are all jumbled and just generally incorrect.
I didnt flash anything, and I closed out jumbled read image without saving.
I'll try again this afternoon and see what happens.

Check out OpenECU.org, there is a member who has a thread posted in there that keeps a current library of definitions, although I'm not too sure about the Eclipse ECU's, I recall seeing quite a few non-evo additions last time I updated them.
