Just get a laptop with vista 32 bit and you'll be fine

A LOT of the XP drivers are not compatible with Windows Vista. So if you're gonna tune with an OBDII-USB cable, make sure it works in Vista first.

I was in the same boat, and my tuner Scot Gray told me to get a laptop with XP. He said that Vista doesn't work well with EMS. I am happy with my decision, because my laptop has been flawless.

^^^ Not sure about those softwares but Vista has been great so far for me. I got it 3 months before it came out and havent had any problems so far so i would recommend it to anyone interested in vista.

Good thing about vista is that u dont have to go around looking for the drivers. Vista pretty much has all the drivers on the DVD.

The software will work, but I'm not totally sure the drivers for OpenPort are compatible with Vista yet. I'm sure openecu will have an update soon tho.

Hey... isn't that what we thought when XP first came out?

ecuflash works fine

evoscan .97 requires you to install .NET 1.1 which you can download from microsoft.

both apps work fine on my vista 32bit os

If you're only getting a laptop to use on the car, why are you getting a brand new one with loads of processing power you don't need?
Buy a used/refurbished Dell on ebay for $200 and save money for other mods...

I just Loaded vista using a iso image from msdn.com and the volume license they provided. ECUflash and EVOscan both worked just the same as it did with XP. I did not have to download any .net framework 1.1 or .net framework 2.0. I think Vista has .net framework 3.0. Man Vista is beautiful though. Makes me feel like I got a new laptop.

Some people have no trouble with .NET 1.1 on Vista, others are asked to install it. Not sure why when .NET 3.0 is supposed to support both.. But the good news is the .NET 1.1 download for Vista does indeed work.

Vista 32 won't be any problem with tactrix (FTDxx) drivers or software, its been verified. 64 bit Vista has no driver for the tactrix cable (YET) and that is why some may have trouble with the software. Of course, anything written with .NET should work fine with Vista64, other programs that are machine code compiles will run in 32 bit emulation, and should work.
