05 EVO8 MR map->03 EVO8
05 EVO8 MR map->03 EVO8
Hello.
is it possible to use 05 evo8 MR map to 03 evo8?
concern i have is that evo8MR is 6 speed and 03 evo8 is 5 speed, does this matter?
both car has very close modifications.
thanks

HI MB,
FYI, the JDM VIII & MR have the same ECU, but different maps flashed to them.
Have sucessfully flashed a standard VIII ECU with MR duel solenoid maps and run the car.
Not sure about the USDM spec ecu, is it a 4 plug?

In the UK, the MR and the 8 have different ECUs, most tend to be JDM cars here. Can't confirm this for the US. But whatever, you should only copy individual maps, not the whole ROM, from one car to another. Then only one map, or part of one map at a time to aid in locating any fault issues that may arise

The ECU's are the same from 2002 through 2005, The problem is there are differences in the wiring to the ECU, some inputs and outputs were altered and therefore different roms aren't completely compatible.
As far as I can tell, a 2005 car can use any 2005 rom, and specific market roms can be used interchangably within reason on different ECU's for 2003-2004 cars. There is some speculation that some JDM roms will also work on USDM cars, but then you get into a realm of OBD-II legality issues.
However there is very little difference in the ECU's themselves, so if you have the proper 2003 rom, for a 2003 car of the right market, it will work regardless of where the ECU came from.
There are some exceptions, but for USDM cars, 2003-2004 Roms are mostly interchangable, the 94170008 is probably the most popular and desirable rom to run since there is the most development effort being expended on it.
2005 cars have no Intercooler sprayer, and have several wiring differences to the ECU, which means the roms don't interchange with earlier ECU's even though the physical ECU is the same.
Your best and safest bet is you copy data from maps in one, to your original if you want that data, or if you want a custom feature, wait for someone to release something for a rom, then ask politely if someone can port it to your rom.

fits the JDM 7. Not sure about the USDM 8MR though, but I've not seen any info to say it is different from the non MR car.
