Cams installed...No lopey idle? Could it be in the tune?

Well about 2 weeks ago I installed Brian Crower 280's with his valve spring and retainer kit. As the title says my car doesn't lope at all...it has stock cam gears on it also. I have a tune from AL originally on it with it touched up by myself. I want it to lope but I don't know why it isn't. Can someone help me? Is it in my tune because my buddy has the same cams and is tuned by ECUFlash and his **** lopes like crazy!!!

Anthony

EDIT: Well I fixed it.....the intake cam was a tooth retarded. I set the crank pulley to TDC and fixed it. The b i t c h lopes like crazy now!!!

Did you bring the idle up from 800? IF so, that's probably why.

I have BC 272's. After install car barely idled at all My idle is really no different than stock now after playing with it with 4wheelslide for a few days. We increased the idle in ECUFlash though.

It idles perfect i also have the springs and retainers.

it's common to increase the idle and even the timing at idle so the car will not stall, the side effect is that the idle will be smoother. Lower that rpm and I bet you'll get that nasty idle you want

If that's a vendor tune (from Al), you should take it down.

Also, the easiest thing is to start lowering your idle bit by bit. I would check it with the ac on and the brake pressed so you don't go too low that it stalls in that condition.

lower idle down to 850-900rpm and retard ignition timing down a few degs@idle(where there are 5s now). I would not retard ignition timing more than that @ idle......

That should give you a little more lope........ which should sound badass.

I actually enjoy a lope @ idle......

I am just throwing this out there as another possibility. It could be that during the install the belt skipped a tooth on the cam gear. We have had this happen on SR20DE engines and the result was a smooth idle and cams that do not produce the promised power output. In the SR20 community lopey idle is a sign of properly installed cams.

When I installed the cams the cam gears were set to TDC and so was the crank pulley....I will check it again though.

It is not a vendor tune...

I was wondering the same thing, cause when I installed 272's on my 8 the idle was pretty much like stock, idle was at a 1000. I have hks came gears set at 0/0 could that be it.

yah not exactly sure why u want the lopey idle - but that timing map looks way aggressive in the peak torque area- u want the real affect from cams get upgraded motor mounts and feel ur steering wheel shake
