nope... everything was the same

i was surprised to. I sent the cams to GSC to get looked at afterwards, and they were fine. Not knocking them at all.... A lot of people make great power with them, and this isnt a thread about the S1's lol...... just wanted to show JB some info. I have a thread about it somewhere else on here.

You sure the load and everything on the dyno was the same? 1000rpm torque difference is weird. I can't help but think either something changed with the dyno or the car to make that much of a increase.

It seems like peak torque at 4200 with the S1's is weird. I've never seen S1's be that laggy.

Greg was stumped as well. If there were any changes to the dyno, i dont know about it.... the results i posted were as unbiased as i could possibly make them. I was hoping the S1's would fair better, but what can i say....

I am also not knocking the S1's but I have the same exact results. I see max boost at 4200-4600 depending on how it loads up. Maybe its MIVEC map, but that wouldnt explain why the Cossies love it so much. I have basically the same exact mods as Bigric09 with the exception of I have a Green and a 3.5" core rather than the AMS 3. His tune is actually pretty similar to mine as far as timing, and I do fuel pretty much the same on any car regardless of mods.

I have a EVO 9 with a FPgreen and S1's going on the dyno in about an hour.

I will post the boost curves and power curves after.

See if I see the same thing.

Here we go.

This was a Evo 9 SE with these mods:

GSC S1 Mivec cams
FPgreen with FP actuator
Denso 720cc injectors
Nisei upper/lower intercooler pipes
TBE with no cat
HKS Kansai airbox with HKS 'flower' filter
HKS hard intake pipe
GM boost solenoid
Ported exhaust manifold
Tubular 02 housing
91 octane

This Evo 9 seemed to spool just like all the other Evo 9's with FPgreens on our Mustang dyno.

Here is a boost plot, 3rd gear:

Here is the above S1 equipped 9 overlayed with another Evo 9 with pretty much the same mods as above, but with Cosworth cams:

Pretty much identical spool.

Here is the Evo 9 with S1 cams power curves:

And here are both the S1 and Cosworth Evo 9's overlayed:

Actually reviewing my last log in comparison to the graph you posted more or less I am seeing the same boost/rpm ratio. I am boosting to 25psi where yours seem to be capping at 24ish. But at 3500rpm you have hit 21psi which I also do so I guess my car isnt off that much compared that car.

Still interested in how the improvements to Bigric09's car are so pronounced with no other changes than the cams though. I guess I am going to have to do some more testing with a different boost controller and some timing changes to see if I can get the boost to hit sooner.

Me too, I really can't understand it. There has to be something else at play there.

I have never seen a 1000rpm improvement between S1's and Cosworths. Unless something was wrong with the car before or some dyno stuff was changed.

btw, the above car with S1's hit peak torque at 3500 rpm when dynoed in 4th (with the rollers synched for 4th as well)

I can tell you from tuning his car (I have logs somewhere) that his car seemed laggy and somewhat unresponsive. It has a 20G9-5 on it not a true Green, but I recall those having a smaller exhaust setup so I would have expected better spool.

I chased my tail for quite awhile and the car never really seemed to be where it should, spool or powerwise. Kreionics car made awesome power and torque with the S1's and I expect that whatever issue it was (dyno or tune...though that didnt change) is probably something minor. CAS on backward the first time and maybe it got straightened out the second time?

Dunno, but my curiosity is only motivating me more.

I've seen some laggy as hell 20G9-5's before.

Still doesn't really help us with the reasoning why spool was improved by 1000rpm. You sure it wasn't something mechanical with the S1 install and the Cosworth swap fixed it?
