Tuning with MAFT

I was pulling my hair out with this for so long with this, now it’s down to biting my nails...

To sum it up I have MAFT with a GEN2 controller. I was tuning with the GEN2 and leaving my maps alone, with that alone I would get these rich points because of the auto AF tracking.

Now I have auto AF off and I have zeroed out the GEN2 settings. Did some logging and its rich as a pig. So I started looking/making changes to my ign maps and fuel maps with ECUFlash.

So now the car is running a LOT better but my tip in is horrible, I am even getting knocks when shifting. I am guessing this bad tip in and knocking is happening when the BOV vents, so where do I need to look at my maps to clean that up?
I have seen some tunes on here where people have made changes based on VTA but I can’t figure where and why?

I run a GEN2, great piece of equipment.

The first thing you need to do is just zero it out and don't let it do any AFR tracking or RPM fuel changes. Just tell it your car and sensor and it should run well.

From their you might have to lean out the high load 5% or so. It is default rich just a bit to be on the side of saftey. When you have it close your actual AFR will be about 1 AFR point leaner than your maps say. So if you have 10's on your fuel map you should be running 11's on the wideband.

If you have more technical questions post on their website. They are very helpful.

Thanks that did help, I had to do -7.0 on the high settings and then lower the mainscale to -17 but now there is just a little rich spot around 4500 RPM but ill clean that up with ECUFlash.

I hated auto AF tracking it was building load way to fast, the the power build is a lit smoother without it.

how do you like the gm maft setup? do you have to rescale your maf settings with ecuflash if you zero out the maft?

I have not rescaled it yet, but I was thinking about giving it a go this weekend.

You should not be rescaling your MAF in ecuflash. If anything (and I haven't even done it on a 130mph drag car) you can recalibrate the MAFT Gen2 for the GM sensor in the car. The goal is to get the MAFT setup *close* and never touch it again. All your changes are then made in the fuel maps in ecuflash.

So hook everything up and zero it out to baseline settings for your car and sensor type. Now set the global on the MAFT so that the WOT AFR's are about 1 AFR leaner than the corresponding target AFR value in your fuel map. Global is set. Now drive around for a few mins and get the car warmed up. Adjust the low settings to be leaner or richer so that your fuel low fuel trim in the ecu are around 100%. This is how I do it on my cars and I can get it tuned in well in about 10 mins.

My friend put one in his turbo 4th gen eclipse (same MAF as evo) and its zeroed out to baseline settings. The car is only tuned using ecuflash and it runs really good.
