Bought a car with a scrambled map
Hi
I am helping a friend of mine that bought aused EVO IX.
We recently were going to install injectors but then we found out that the car seems to have a scrambled map.
I am not new to Ecuflash so I have ruled out beginners mistakes. . and tried two seperate Tactrix cables and a two versions of Ecuflash.
What would be an indicator that I am trying to read a scrambled map ?
And is there a way to reverse the scrambling without having the original map or the tuned map ?
The person that my friend bought the Evo from didnt know it had been flashed and it seems to hard to get information about what tuner did the work
regards

If it is "scrambled" as you say, than it is a definition issue. The most common form of protection tuners use is borking the ECUID as you mentioned. you just change the ECUID to the correct ID, save it, and re-open, so it uses the correct definition.
Another approach would be to get the immobilizer code from your borked rom, and put that to a stock ROM image.

It is most likely the INIT Code, some of the free roms have a different code so once you flash you cannot get back in and change it. I did this once. If you can't get into it at all try ECU unlocker, it worked for me. Then change the INIT code to 0001 and you will be able to access it normally.
Good luck, Glen

if you can download and open the rom in ECUFlash than the ECU is not locked.

This is the correct answer.
The ECU unlocker will not unscramble the ids. My VIII was scrambled like that by Dynoflash it is something about changing the hex files to where the ecu does not recognize them unless they are change back.
Correct. Open the scrambled map with a hex editor (find a decent one at download.com with a search feature) search for the wrong rom id # that your rom currently has. Change it to the right rom id. If you don't know the right rom id# then I guess you will need to guess and test starting with the most popular #'s.
Thanks for all the help guys
But since I dont have the stock or scrambled maps, then I dont have a source for the immobilizer code for this car.
And to get the scrambled map I would need to know the scrambled Rom id, is that correct ?
That means that the only way to fix this issue would be getting a new ECU of some sort ?
Hopefully we can use an ECU out of a IX MR into this IX.

What are you talking about? It helps to know that your car is an IX, that makes it easier.
Just download the rom via ECU flash, save it somewhere, call it scrambledIXrom.hex or something.
Go download xvi32 (hex editor program): http://www.chmaas.handshake.de/delph...vi32/xvi32.htm
Launch xvi32, open the rom file you saved from your car.
Address -> Go To Address and put in hex $F52.
Type in the hex value: 88 59 00 15
Now save it as a NEW NAME, call it unscrambledIXrom.hex.
Now open that file in EcuFlash and voila, unscrambled maps!
It is literally just that easy. If that does not work, try some other romIDs that might have come for your car, search this forum for those.

take a few steps back and answer these questions.
1) Can you connect ECUFlash and read/download the map from the ECU?
*If No - you ECU is locked and you need an unlocker from aktivematrix to proceed
*If Yes - your ECU is not locked, and you have pulled the ROM image off the ECU
2) Do you have a proper definition for the ROM you just pulled.
*if Yes - You're good to go.
*if No - You're ROM will look "scrambled" and this is what we thought you meant.
It is scrambled because you have an incorrect ECUID, and no XML definition for it.
It is possible to get the immobilizer code off a "scrambled" Rom image.
It is possible to change the ECUID to the correct ID for your ROM effectively "unscrambling it"
Hi
What I misunderstood was, that I thought I couldnt read the map if it was scrambled.
Other than that I understood you guys
Thanks for really good explanations and guides
