Need some tooning help to rid knock.
I'm up to stock timing up to about 150-180 load where it tapers into my WOT timing. The car certainly runs a lot better and gets much better gas mileage, but it did nothing to the random knock problem.
Have you guys considered looking at the knock filtering maps? It seems that the ECU is seeing knock when there isn't any.
Have you tried driving through a tunnel with a window down and listening for any actual knock? This is an easy and simple way to find out what is going on. You will hear the detonation echo off the walls if there is any. If that fails, it may be worth investing in one of the microphone-headphone devices to listen yourself for knock.
What could also be happening is the retarded condition is having an after-burn effect in the exhaust manifold, and with it not being a completely controlled combustion it could be seen as knock by the sensor. Just a thought.

So, I am thinking that this is possibly a "normal" condition for the motor. I recently switched to E85, and I am not even through the first full tank and noticed that the same knocking in the same areas is happening.
I tried increasing the timing in those areas when I was running 93, and it definately helped as the knock went down, but, it also caused the knock under certain conditions to increase a little. The situations it increased a little was when I had drastic chnges in weather conditions, like going through a heavily wooded section where the temp dropped 15* in about 1/4 mile.
Other than that, the increasing of the timing numbers in that area helped out enough to where I am going to call it a day. The knock isn't making the octane number drop, so I am no longer going to try over and over to get rid of it. No longer especially because in some of the other posted data logs I have seen, it was there on other peoples car's.
E85 has helped the situation a little, but it's still there. Average knock is at MAX on 6 counts.
Evo VIII on e85 getting high knock counts 30, with evoscan in low rpms 2800-3200 rpms....
Above 3200 I can rip on the car without a count... below and gradually rises.
Tried changing the timing, both down then up. Nothing happened, same response, Leaned it out a bit, and nothing happened. back to timing and nothing.
I'm just stumped... Only other issue I hear is my power steering pump, which wines like a dying bird... thought that could be setting it off but I won't know till I replace it.
Got M2's, 16g, and fullrace header. BPR7Es
