Why do you need a Resistor with the GM 3 Port?

What is the resistor in the GM 3 Port Pigtail used for? What happens if it does not have it or if it is another value. It is a 12V solenoid so why is it needed.

Will this mod through a CEL?

It's used to limit current draw from the ECU

yeah apparently it reduces the amount of current the soleniod can draw

electronics are about volts AND amps

it wont throw a CEL

if i'm not mistaken, the GM solenoid's resistance is 10 ohm less than the stock one. so to stop the current raising with the GM, you add a 10ohm res, so the ecu sees the same load.
