Data logging
Data logging
I have just been out for a run data logging and i have come home and looked at my logs.
I have got events of up to 11 counts of nock.
What i need to know is, should i only look at 3rd or 4th gear power runs and not as this log is - a full (ish) power run up the gears around twistys?
Should i be worried about these high counts or are they 'normal' and should i go out and pull a 3rd gear run and analyze that?
Feel a bit stupid but any advice appreciated.

I would say "tune" in 3rd, and when your happy w/ that "fine tune" in 4th. And when you have that down, start doing pulls from 1-3rd. make sure your on a flat straight away, and when logging "for consistency" try logging in the same place all of the time!
So i should really run in a straight flat line to get accurate figures..!
It just seemed odd as my car has been mapped by a very reputable tuner in the u.k. and 11 counts even if i was going up will or after a gear change seemed rather high.

take a look @ where exactly you are getting knock. You could be getting knock from shifting... I occasionally get "lift off knock" which is when you lift off the gas (shifting, etc.) I would see like 9 counts from "lift off knock"! Some say its ok, and some say its knock! I say its knock and dont like it! Its not consistent (for me) so I would suggest, pinpointing the knock! If its @ like 3500 in any gear, thats a different story. I would do this: Do 3 or 4 back to back pulls (3rd gear)maybe a minute apart, come back and look @ your logs. The reason I say do 3 or four is for consistency. You may have 1 pull w/ 2-3 counts and another pull w/ out knock at all, so consistency is the key!
and YES do your pulls on a straight/flat road. If your going uphill, your load will be higher! And just to make things clear, do pulls (3rd) from 2000 - 7500 or 7000 if your not comfortable pushing the car that much! I do my pulls to 7500 w/ out any probs! (4th) from 3000 - 7500 and (5th) from 4000 - 7500

O.k Thanks. I will have a go at that over the weekend and remembering consistency is the key!!
Im sure the tune should be good as it was done by a 'pro'. I just need to get my head around these logs so i can destroy my engine with my own map!
