I would think that it is latencies or the scaling since when you are idling at normal operating temps you are in closed loop. Have you pulled a log of the STFT and all three LTFT trims while idling for at least 16 min?

My car has always idled closer to 15.0AFR with the A/C and all accessories off but I never really worried about it since it does no harm (only good...fuel economy).

You may or may not notice a very slight increase in fuel economy. The first time you put your foot in it though whatever economy you had just went out the window!

To the OP, Jack_of_Trades is right though, it doesn't do any harm. I am pretty crazy **** about stuff on my car so if it is supposed to be at 14.7 I do all kinds of stuff to try to get it to 14.7! the .3 difference could be something as minor as an exhaust leak or placement of the wideband sensor or something that small. I wouldn't worry about it. Just enjoy your car!

my evo with smallish cams idles very well at 16/17 afr.

I doubt your car is suffering from lean idle.

does your car run well wot? just think there is something else wrong.

then you need to log idle for 16 minutes with the fuel trims and o2 sensor readings. Who is doing your tuning?
