EGR Solenoid as a 3 port option?

The EGR solenoid is a 3 port vacuum solenoid. Has anyone looked into using this as a 3 port BCS alternative? Is it plug and play? Would it work in boost since it is designed for vacuum?

From what i can tell from the FSM the EGR solenoid does bleed vacuum back to the intake mani. Here is the pic from the FSM below with what i interpreted, i may be backwards though:

Thoughts? If this works i think a lot more people could shut off their EGR and recycle the solenoid for boost control Its a shot in the dark i know.

thats a cool idea although I'm not sure if that would work. It would need to block off one port at a time and not bleed air from the port. If it just bleeds off air from the system then it will be exactly the same as the stock boost controller. It needs to actually keep one input source and switch between output sources.

If you want test it out by hooking it upper to a power source and see how the solenoid behaves. I have my solenoid sitting in a box somewhere, if I get time this weekend I'll test it out.

I assume it does block it off since the egr is only open during specific conditions. I will be pulling my intake mani for the IAT mod in the coming months and removing my EGR in the process. Once i get it off i can do some testing.

I think this has been thought of for DSMlink and they basically found out that (for DSMs at least) the solenoid does not act fast enough and reprogramming to use it would be very difficult. If you are just trying to stick it on the BCS line that is already in place then by all means

The thing that I did like about DSMLink was that you could use the FPR solenoid and EGR solenoid to be slightly configurable and use them for things like nos control (where it would switch the line, but just as a 0/100 type deal and you could adjust the timing and a few other things). I personally used mine to switch from spring pressure on my FWD 35R car to eBCS in 2nd.

the GM and MAC solenoids are so cheap anyway that its not that big a deal, although it would be cool to be able to use stuff that you already have

Well i am thinking of a plug and play option that isnt $100+ Again i dont know if it is even plug and play but it would be nice like you said to be able to use something we already have

I was under my car last night and I am pretty sure that it would be plug and play. I didn't look at the EGR valve but the connector on the car was the same if I remember.

This is a pretty cool idea, I will test it out this weekend.
