Ecu Removal for Flash

I have been searching for a thread on this to get my ecu out so i can send it to ams to get it flashed. I have a 06' Evo IX Se and as far as i know its behind the glove department (dash) to the left. IF its not there, where is it? Also do i need to just send it the ecu itself, not harness, etc?

Take out the glovebox, there is a slide in tray that protects the ecu wires from under neath. Slide it out and unplug the ecu. Then remove the 3 bolts from behind the glove box and the ecu slides right out.

no....supposedly there is a projected flash limit, many people have surpassed it by a large margin.

I have flashed so many times I have honestly have no idea....so you have nothing to worry about.

Okay, i would like to get some software on my laptop so i can do my own tuning eventually so as i add parts i dont have to keep sending my ecu out to get flashed.

And parked the car downtown last night, so you have to take a bus to get to it. Oh and buy a screwdriver at autozone on the way. And maybe take a lunch between taking the glovebox off and unscrewing the ECU.

you dont have to send your ecu out everytime. when you buy your parts try to buy them in bunches and install all at once to prevent numerous tunes like i have gone threw lol...and see if there is a shop local that can do your tuning for you, hopefully that has a dyno. and look into tuning first before you start messing with a laptop, i cant tell you how many times i have seen ppls cars blowing up because they think they can tune, not assuming you cant, but just learn please before you get yourself in a huge whole.

I agree, but that is why i said eventually. I live in the mid atlantic and we have Turboxs or which would be my choice Atlantic Motor Sports (east coasts AMS but their not called that). That specifically work on evo's and there not t far from me so i probably will just do my tuning there. I believe they have a mustang awd dyno there.

i would get all your parts first and install them, then bring it to the shops local to you, and get a tune. and the best thing is re-tunes are alot cheaper then the full regular tune price so if you ever have another part to install that throws off your AFR's you can go right back.....well thats atleast what i do. goodluck

Download ECuFlash and buy a openport cable and Evoscan. Then contact mellon Tuning, 4WS or any of the other reputable email tuners. Does not require an ECU send in and is a better and more specific tune then a mail in tune. I am not trying to take away AMS business, but you can do the above now and save yourself time and possibly money.
