evo8 swap into an eclipse

trying to help a board memeber get this up and running
its an evo8 complete switchover into an eclipse
i forgot offhand which year though
we cant get ecuflash to read either the factory eclipse ecu or the evo 8 ecu to be read by my laptop
are the pinouts the same
he said the eclipse ecu did fire up the motor but was too rich
is there something we missed
we have a rom to disable the security on the evo ecu but
in order to get farther we need the laptop to communicate with the ecu
it says no interface found
any ideas

he should chime in if he finds this post

Not quite. There is a basic pinout diagram in post #1, but towards the end of that thread there is a little more info as well.

you provided a link to a 2g eclipse, not 3g

The pinout is close enough to just plug and play, then modify the periphery to remove SES codes. I know because I have it on my car. (3g eclipse is the same as stratus coupe of the same years)

There has to be something else wrong, ECUflash should be able to pull the stock ROM out of 3g ECU.

Have you verified that laptop/cable works on another car? Is there a possability that the OBDII connector is damaged? or the wire that connects it?

what?? u have an evo 8 motor and harness or stock 3g harness?? if u did not do ne thing to the harness the obd port should work... now u said it says no interface found?? that means ur cable is not installed properly on that particular laptop.. Try another port or resinstall the usb cable drivers and reinsert the cable.. it should say open port 1.3 or whatever in the bottom right... i hope were talking about the right thing...

If I remember correctly its pin 79 on the ecu that goes to the datalink connector. . Also on my car I had to change the wiring for the maf ground and sensor grounds from the stock eclipse to pin 40 which is what the evo uses. If you need any help with anything else let me know.

Hey whats up man! Haven't heard from you in a while!

Do you think where the ground is matters? Just wondering.

Get that dude to come here and tell us whats going on! it makes sense that the car would run rich with stock eclipse settings, because its driving the injectors at ~240cc pulsewidths. Also an EVO ecu isn't absolutely necessary, the EVO rom can be flashed into the eclipse ECU, as long as its a 2001+ ECU.

I helped a friend of mine on 3G here in GA, that is running a 3G eclipse boosted. All we did was flash is rom to make it think it is an EVO VIII. He own Southern Car Customs in Savannah,GA, if you want to look up the number and give him a call. His name is Chris.
