I haven't been able to try either just yet but after reading all that there has to be an easier way. There must be something we're missing.

its actually just a matter of copying and pasting it to your desktop, editing it from there, deleting the one in your rommetadata folder and pasting it back in.

i did all of those steps in case something screwed up and because i have a folder for everything to make sure if something goes wrong i have something to go back to. once you make a backup of the original xml you dont need to again so that step wouldnt be included after your first patch. the time consuming bit is copying your tune over to the patched roms for like nlts-valet mode-flashing cel on knock.

I am going to try and paste my rom info can someone tell me if this is just a stock one or posibly mine? I am wanting to change to a newer rom but my car is modded and I don't know how to change anything yet, and don't want to destroy my motor. I just now found the xml stuff after asking and looking for a week and half. I am no good with computers but I try. I am wanting to add the egr delete code and a few others when I can remember what they were.

You'll probably want to start a new thread with your question. I suggest you just attach the file of your ROM if you want people to review. Pasting data in like that won't help you, or anyone that is trying to help you.

To be honest there is a level of computer savvy and patience that is needed for modifying the Tune. If you don't have that, you may want to consider the mail in guys. They do all the computer stuff for you, then email you the file, and any questions you have they answer directly. There are a bunch of 'vendors' on the forum. Sometimes that is a great way to learn, because you get to see some of the process as they resolve your issues.

tscompusa
dynotechtuning
melontuning

etc. There are many more.

I deleted it. I pasted it cause most of the guys who are good at reading them can tell if it is stock. My car was already tuned by Dynoflush and it is not worth crap. The car will not idle, dies all the time. Doing the mail in tune is senseless when learning how to tune is what we are all here for and many have learned. I can do basics on a computer I just don't know where to look for files. I finally found the xml files after asking many times without even an answer. I have watched the videos and did not see anywhere where he opened the xml files in an editor like notepd or excel, maybe I should look again.
I have tried to paste my rom info before and for some reason it won't let me copy and paste it, this is the stuff I can't work around like others can, that are the tricks on a computer I lack.

That's too bad about your mail in experience. That is not what I have heard. But then, if you are going to learn on your own and have the patience it will become addicting.

On the vid's, yeah, without sounding condescending; recompile shows where and how the files open in the first few minutes of his first video.

For ecuflash the xml files you edit are in the rommetadata folder under the evo folder. Once you grasp some of the steps with the basic edits like the EGR disable one for instance, then building on that is easy.

I missed it in the video or it doesn't work on my laptotp, I tried what I seen and I lost the use of my ECUflash and had to restore my laptop to 2 days earlier to get ECUflash to open my rom again. I will watch it again. I let the ecuflash set everything up for me. I tried opening the xml files in notepad and it doesn't look like others I have seen. Mine is just a buch of letters and numbers.

OK, I hear ya, but the best way is to open your ROM in ecuflash and compare it to a stock one. Looking at the AFR and TIMING tables is the start, and the WGDC and load stuff. It would be a simple comparison. I don't recommend just replacing your ROM with a stock one, because there could be more things messaged that you won't be able to sort out without knowing the history.

Following the beginners guide for rj22 whatever is a good way to go to reset the boost curve. The best way to tune would be to set those value low, and then go tune the AFR and Timing. Then once you have done that you will have amassed some skills and then go turn the boost up and retune the AFR and Timing as needed.

You could post in the ecuflash forum and attach your ROM file. I think its a .bin file. EvoM now allows the attachment of that file. So post and use the paperclip at the top of the tools when you are typing your post and it gives you a dialog box. The top selection is bin with a file limit which you will be under. Just keep your question simple.

If you had it tuned via email, then you know its not stock. Ask folks if they recommend just loading a stock ROM. Remember too, that you will need you immobilizer code in order for any other file to work. Read or reread that section at the beginning of any of the tutorials so you have that down solid. That will screw you if you don't have that value later on.

There are a number of ways. First you need to take a screen shot of your screen. That is what you are seeing. That is the print screen key on a PC. On a mac, I forgot how, but its similar. Its usually better however to use something like SnagIt or Skitch, which are screen capturing tools that do so quickly and easily, and then you can draw on them like this....

That one above is hosted by me, and is a link to my DropBox folder. You can have EvoM host the images for you, but they have to be really small. Use the paperclip when you are posting and a sub window will come up for you to select a file type, and browse to it. I attached an image of my simpson sailor icon, which is tiny. That is hosted by EvoM now.

Once you get a good system down, it makes posting clear and simple to follow questions much easier. your likelihood of someone reviewing and helping is higher. People love to see images, and don't really like to read that much. I know, because I type too much. hahaha.

If your car has been tuned by a professional tuner would it be that you can edit and save the tune all you want but will not be able to edit and save the xml files if they passeord locked them?

That doesn't sound like an ecuflash kind of tune. So my first guess is that you are using ecuflash in 'beginner' mode. You need to set the preferences up to be in Developer mode to get to all the maps, and likely that is your hold up.

If your car is tuned by some other tool, like used to be more common years ago, like edutek, and stuff like that, then yes it could be locked in some way, or by virtue of being a proprietary system. I don't have enough experience on any other tools or seen other 'pro' tuner maps to give good advice here.

Make sure you are in developer mode if you are using ecuflash.

I am in developer mode. It is ecuflash tuned. All the user levels on the computer were turned down so I could make changes. I just can't edit and save the xml files. So I myself can't do anything like add a 3bar map sensor or anything like that.

It's possible for the tuner to have locked it. Check the stickies for the Rom unlocker.

Give this a try.
