Hi all hope you can help I tried mapping shunk2 264/272 cams my evo 8 mr fq320 and found that i had to take loads of timing out e.g 4 degrees at some points.

I couldn't add any timing either just dropped it as it was knocking alot!!

heres a link to my graphs and thread -

I know someone with more experience will speak up soon and I'm by no means saying I'm right in saying this, but my initial guess is that your AFR's are a tad high between 3800 and 4500 and then again at 5000 to 5750. I think 12.0 is about .5 higher than the normal target AFR's.

Do you have a log of the knock and where it is/was happening?

A couple of people run there evo's on 12's but i could knock it down there I agree, the knock happens on peak torque 4000 ish and then again at 6000/6500rpm.

Which i thought was weird as thought i would be able to add more timing here but couldn't and had to drop the afr to 11.

Have you rescaled the fuel and timing maps to allow for more load? If so the shift in the table may be the cause of your issue. Your timing does not look spot on since it jumps up and down. Post your timing and fuel tables and we can get you in the ball park with some settings.

Adding cams creates a tuning nightmare at first. You will have to pull a lot of timing to get the car to run knock free. Then adjust your AFRs to run mid 12s durring spool and average abourt 11.5ish till redline (93 octane). Typically timing will drop as the turbo spools until you hit peak torque, then the timing should climb as RPM climbs.

Maybe I should of taken 4-5 degrees out the whole map then to start rather than just leave the timing that i had before???

I noticed the shift in power it doesn't seem to far away altho turbo was a bit heat soaked when this run was done car on the road peaks at 3500-3600 and on dyno it was nearly 4000.

How do I add the ecu timing and fuel maps on here?? tried ctrl+prt sc not worked??

You can post screenshots with alt-prtsc and then past it into MS paint and save as a png, then add as attachment. PNG shows up maps and graphs better than gif or jpg.

Do we know if JDM 8MR cams are the same as US 8MR cams? I gather than the US Evo 8 (non-MR) has cams like our 260 - quite soft. It may be that your original cams were not worth upgrading on the stock turbo as I think is often the case on the 9...
