EGTs for Road Racing
My probe is in the collection portion of the manifold as fluid dynamics tells me the temp will go up when the pulses all meet up and the pressure goes up. It's true. I regularly see 1700-1800 there. I can't speak for how much I trust my sensor, but that's what it says. I do have some heating issues. I just warped my SS 02 housing. Strange because I'm only running normal timing (3 degrees peak torque up to ~14 at redline) at 23psi on the stock turbo and 11.5:1 AFR with water injection.
I ran my car hard last year for about a dozen events (VIR, Summit, Pocono, etc.) at 23 psi on a White Rabbit turbo, 350 whp Mustang dyno, and had no reliability issues -- but I was running meth injection or 100 octane and my AFRs were closer to 11.0 and high 10s on the 5th gear straights.
runner #1, on our time attack evo. we like to keep the EGT below 1655F or 900C. On the roval like California speedway we are in 5th 165+mph for long period of time, we hit EGT up to 920C for couple for seconds.
