The only thing i really hate about this new rom is the retarded throttle hang. The 03-04 roms purr like kittens, lol as a matter of fact if I could just have big maps on the 03-04 rom i would be happy. That resolution is nice.

The 9653 is a great rom. I am using tephra v7 now with no ill results. It does take a little more time to get all of the tables set up right for our year, 03, but the end result is great.

I started this thread to get people to stop cluttering up the v7 thread with requests to make a USDM rom.

The fact of the matter remains that 9653xxxx works, and works very well. It is extremely supported even to a point that threre are some tables that other versions never even have.

Agreed, it's almost dangerous on my car. I still have to explore fixing the issue in V7 and lay off the boost in the meantime. Kinda scary when you let off the gas and the car is still hung at 4k RPM

If they decided to do a universal USDM VIII ROM my vote is for 94170015

We picked it because tephra tossed it out as a possibility, and a few of us as early testers were able to get it up and running very quickly. Several of us had also tried a UK dual-solenoid ROM, with little success; once we found a ROM that worked as a solid replacement, we kept it.

I don't get this "my car is USDM, so I want USDM code" argument. Why, exactly? Can you clearly articulate why "USDM" is special? ("I'm picky" isn't a reason, it's an emotional response.) You know it was all compiled from the same code by a guy in Japan sitting at a keyboard anyway, right? The question doesn't even make sense to me, as someone who has spent a lot of time staring at the disassembly for a wide swath of different ROMs.

9694 (0013 in particular) is interesting to me in that it constitutes Mitsu's final US market code release. 9694 is basically the evolutionary end to the code they've been developing all along for the VIII ECU, so observing the changes from 0011 to 0013, for example, ought to give us a pretty comprehensive view of what they were still tweaking near the end. I'm not necessarily interested in running it anymore, just examining it. (Although, it might be what I would base off of if I were toying with an IX ECU in an VIII.)

9653 is "better", in that it has a ton of free space for new code, and achieves this by being extremely light on emissions testing code (the results of which can be simulated with acamus' OBD-II readiness/availability patches). Being that it's an '05 ROM, it also represents something near the end of development on the VIII ECU for the EDM market. (I'd love to know if Mitsu made a follow-up release to that version; ie. a 96530007 or some later release; Bez was working back in the day with 0006, so I have a hard time believing it's the latest version.)

9417 is a random mid-point in development from Mitsu. About the only thing I could say it has going for it is that there's a bit more room to work with than 9694 (although nothing like we have in 9653). I can't see a solid argument for keying off of that release any more than I could see basing off of 9055, 9642, or 9626.

(Actually, I've been rather curious about 9055; I'd love to know what's preventing the VII guys from running 9653, and see if there's anything we can do to help accommodate them. Similarly, I'd like to revisit the 9626 testing I did way-back-when; I have to wonder if I just missed something obvious when trying to switch to that ROM. I'd love to see those last two loose ends (9055 and 9626) tied up, so that we could target a single VIII ROM; if that means switching from 9653 to 9626, so be it, as far as I'm concerned. )

All of this talk of throttle hang.....try changing the idle stepper lookup table to match the 94170008 and your issue should go away.

The number one problem I'm seeing with people who convert to 9653 is a failure to follow this one very simple instruction: ADJUST THE BISS. 9694, 9417, etc. all mask over poor adjustment of the BISS screw, while 9653 does not; your car might be running fine, but only because the ECU is compensating rather heavily. This has an impact on idle quality, codes that get thrown, and really just about anything relating to the ISC (which includes throttle hang).

Think of it this way: just because your car is running fine with +10 LTFTs, doesn't mean it's the right way to operate.

i need to read up a bit on adjusting the BISS screw. i have a similar problem on my rom.

back to the topic: i should have my hands on a JDM VIII to test 9653 on, it's possible and i am hoping it works fine with the necessary periphery bits. it is strong rom with good support.

I converted a locals car to 965 rom and I did it the long way - didn't use pre-patched roms because I dont care for the "new xmls" I have my own style I use in xmls and will keep it that way (old dog syndrome I guess).

I double checked everything while porting the tables over, confirmed the periphery bits and disabled what needed disabled and didn't disable everything just because I could, and got the emissions stuff all setup to pass local emsisions requirements - once we fired it up took it out for a drive to warm it up. When we got back I adjusted the BISS and everything was perfect...

He has no throttle hang issues that i noticed nor has he reported anything to me and he was running the 94170015 rom - the car seems to drive smoother and idle better on this rom so much that it is very noticeable.

If I could just get big maps onto my tephra V.2 96420008 ROM I would be content.

Thats fine that you dont think I should want a USDM ROM. Its just personal preference. Just like you buy brand A exhaust, and I buy brand C exhaust.

Also, I understand when you talk about the ROM and mitsu last revisions. At first I thought/wanted for us to use the 96420011 ROM, since its the last revision for the 03-04 cars.

And about putting on 9653 and simulate all the smog stuff, I dont feel comfortable doing that on peoples cars that I tune here in CALIFORNIA. I think most of you keep forgetting that fact, that I live in california and dont feel totally right loading up 9653 to peoples cars. Also because the idle stuff. If they have to go to the state ref (yeah, something you guys probably dont not know about) or to mitsu, it would be nice if they could load their stock ROm and not have to worry about adjusting the idle and such.

All in all though, like I have said on the first page and numerous times since...

"All I did was ask if tephra would make a USDM V7 and I said I would donate more, even though I have already donated towards V7.

I guess I should have just sent my request to tephra in private and just paid him to do one V7 USDM ROM for me. Sorry"

I dont think the BISS screw has anything to do with the throttle hang. All 05+ cars have it, even USDM ones. So its not isolated to 9653.

It seems like it would be beneficial if somebody took a stock 96530006 ROM, and patched all the values from 94170015 into it. Particularly the idle and decel tables.

Then have that ROM be identified and used as a ROM specifically for the 03-04 USDM EVOs.

If you have to see the emissions ref, what do they even check with regards to the ECU?

If they compare it to a stock ROM, you are screwed no matter what ROM you are using if you have done ANY tuning. If it's nothing more then a ECU ID check, I'm sure you could come up with a creative way to help your customers around that check...

I dont know personally, I have never been. But others have and a lot of people worry/fear it here in CA.

They probably just do a intense emission test. Patching it with the emission test patches we have would probably make it pass. Its just that I dont wanna put the 9653 EDM ROM with hacked emissions stuff on OTHER peoples cars. (I cant even imagine the fines for that if they ever figured it out. FYI, running a test pipe can hold a fine of 1500-2500 in CA. Having ANY non stock part without a CARB # equals a trip to the state ref, to have the whole car/emissions system intensely inspected.)

All I want is the BIG MAP patch. Hell Im running 5.10 and dont even run half the features of it. so why would I want to add all the changes needed to make the car run well again on a ROM that requires alot of change.

Id rather just get enough people together to donate enough to have tephra do a 94170015 big map patch then have to move to a different rom with more stuff that most people dont need or use.

IMHO
